AT A COMIC CON. Well, not really. It's the Malta Comics Expo (there is a comic con, if you can believe it, but it doesn't sound as good or have any of the guests of the comics expo).
Apparently, even on that tiny, rocky, very hot little piece of island in the middle of the Mediterranean (still part of EU), there are enough comics and video games lovers and geeks to grant us 3 days of events.
I'll be going, and hopefully I won't be too disappointed. I know the one I'm really excited about is Milo Manara, considering I've seen an exhibit of his work before, and loved it.
Any advice on the do's and don't's of the convention world?
PS: Keep in mind there are maybe...half a million people on this island, most of them couldn't even tell batman from superman, and the rest consider gamers with disdain, so I doubt it'll be a crush. I ain't gettin' no VIP tickets for that.
Schedule, because it's a little clearer than their crappy panel page with 70's pics of the actors

Make sure you bring enough money for acquisitions and don't be too creepy to take a picture with cosplays.

The first time always hurts the most. Many wallet cried. Many cards burn. Many weebs still don't get some.

Oh god, I don't even think there'll be people cosplaying, really. This is what I thought when I first heard of pop culture conventions being held here in Bangladesh (still a relatively new thing here), but I was pleasantly surprised to find out there's actually a pretty strong cosplay community here. Sure, final results never real too high quality, but that's still better than non at all.

Awkward stares and compliments are still uncomfortable to the person in the receiving end, regardless of how much they're doing it for pics and attention (most of the time at least, I believe).

My first time involved me forgetting to bring a wallet and I ended up borrowing 20$- 10$ of which was sacrificed as entry fee.
Good times.

It's a convention so there may possibly be some. Everyone does cosplaying for different reasons; some do it because they like being fame whores and look good in costumes (annoying sometimes, but nice to see good costumes), others do it because it's fun to make and dress up like your favorite character (fuck dressing up once a year in October).
Basically remember that the person cosplaying wants to enjoy the convention too so it can be annoying when everybody wants to take your picture (though some shouldn't dress up if they take it too sensitively). Either ask for their picture or to take one with them, if you do it discreetly do it from a moderate distance (don't be that pervert behind the corner taking a pic). Don't stare or rattle on about the costume obsessively, keep hands by your side not on the person (unless they go to hug or touch you first). If they don't want to talk with you, don't take it personally because again they probably want to enjoy the con just as much as you do.

That's why I didn't take a picture of Junko Enoshima (Real) cosplayer. I thought she was just dressing up for the sake of dressing up and not wanting to take pictures.

You're a well adjusted girl, you'll do fine with con etiquette. Just remember to take cash so you don't have to queue for the ATM if it's crowded.
I hope there's no crazies that will harass Milo because of the spiderwoman cover he drew.

I just hate when a group of people crowd around and make it a mass photo shoot. Some people also get way too friendly with you and make things uncomfortable. And it's not even so much that they are hitting on you, they just get too close and personal and are trying way too hard to be friendly. It's whatever though. I just like cosplaying because I like to make the costumes and conventions are fun for me when it's a good convention.

Don't be a weirdo, and watch out for weirdos.
Bathe and wear deodorant. Pray to Yahweh everyone else did so too.(They probably didn't)
Bring plenty of money, try to plan out how much you're willing to spend on stuff beforehand.
From what I've been told, con food that isn't imported candy is usually really expensive and not that great.

You're too sweet, tsujoi-kun, only you could think I'm well adjusted. You're the best.
Also, I'm kinda of wanting to see him answer to that, and the question will come up I hope, since we're in a very prude country. Also, the whole panel is going to be in Italian, which is the reason I'm dragging the bf, so I have my own translator.
Man, this thread is a wreck. (Also, man, I know you don't do it on purpose, but it always feels to me like you're preaching in a condescending tone, it's horrible reading your postsm no offense).
So okay, no perving on sweetly underdressed ladies, and having cash on me (this is actually the kind of things I always forget, someone had to advance my lunch today causelolcrappysandwichplacedoesn'thavedebitmachinethingy).
Oh and not stinking. Which is difficult with the 30 degrees C out here, but they do crank up the AC.
WILL DEFINITELY BATHE GUYS. I PROMISE. I MIGHT EVEN SHAVE MY ARMPITS, FOR THE SPECIAL OCCASION.

You'll be fine, I haven't gone to a convention since I was 13 though back when final fantasy 10 was all the rage. My friends and I dressed up as Yuna, Rikku, and Lulu. We were all cooed at and called chibi the entire time. I had the unfortunate role as Lulu where I was dragging around a 30lb belt skirt all day. If you're going to cosplay, dont' do what I did and wear a 30lb skirt all day.

I don't mean you should do it.
But if you want you can dress like Ryuko in battle and make euroweebs make creme in their panties.
