Lurk (read) profiles and you learn a bit of each people more. It would be very uncomfortable if you said "Hi, I read your favorites, thanks for showing your good tastes".
How is that uncomfortable? I used to do that all the time.

Uncomfortable because I have never seen that behavior before, thus, I would not know how to react, making me uncomfortable.
