I tend to work midnight shifts and long hours, so I have far more tips for staying awake rather then going to sleep. If your reading this on your computer and watching TV right now, then you normally wont be able to sleep for roughly another 30 min. Tough Luck hun. I recommend turning off your TV and comp soon. (Something about the light tricks your body into thinking its not time to sleep.)
Drink slightly warm milk and have a light snack. (Turkey supposedly works well) Don't eat too much because it will keep you awake. They're supposedly rich in some T-chemical that helps you sleep.
The best way to get good sleep though takes more long term commitment. But this should be enough for a quick snooze. (P.S Last resort is some sleep aid, it hurts your sleeping pattern more then helps...usually)

When I get sleeping trouble, I usually hear soft music, or just read books to get sleepy. Just lay down on the bed and relax, don;t try to think about anything and then close your eyes and just wait until your asleep. It works for me.

if ur a person who tends to talk more to urself than others meaning doing a lot of thinking or stressing urself out, here's a way i found out to cure tht and get some nice ZZZZ's try meditating ,and when u do picture a total blank paper or still water, feel the stillness or emptiness which can b quite effective. Take my word for it, it works, one word of caution though u need to relax at the same time sorta like from normal breath to long breaths taking it deep and u havta picture it clearly and b4 u know it ur looking for ur pillow already.

Kings of Convenience reminds me of elevator music, except it's actually good.
