Anywa, you have a girlfriend or boyfriend, and sometimes, you give them a pet name. In all honesty, I am NOT the pet name sort of person. I'd just prefer them to call me by my name or a nickname rather than 'baby' or something, just so that I know that they are aware that I have a name.

However I have liked one name that grew on me which was Mini (last name, won't say) because some guys couldn't be bothered to remember my name, and my bro was pretty popular in school, so I grew a nickanme/pet name XD

It's what I've grown up with, us English people are like a bit... weird I guess.

But where I'm from originally, we called each other duck or ducky, I have no idea why, we also said 'ma wee chuck' which is scottish, and a lot of the guys called their gf's sexpot

And I threw in schnuckums because I was watching something and they said that so I was like 'YAY' nickname/pet name and used it since

awww! In all honesty, my pick of the nickname litter is Honey, I would hate to be called sexy or summert, but it would be a huge confidence booster on my part

Absolutely none of the above. If you can't be bothered to call someone you like by their own name most of the time, then rethink that relationship.

On the flip side, nicknames like that are generic, and using them makes me feel like a pig. If I'm gonna call my girlfriend a nickname, it should have some meaning behind it, or it could be a play on names. Such as calling Elizabeth 'LIZard'. So long as they don't get offended by it, it's ok

However, I will comment on the choice of calling someone you like 'love'. Here in America, I think we've started picking it up from hearing it from our friends over in the UK area. I would give it the OK to use in passing comment. (i.e. Hey love, pass me the grater?). But again, I wouldn't use it in normal conversation

I just call my gf "babe", and she calls me "sweety" or "love"

pet nicknames, and yeah, that's what we use over here in rainy ol' Britain

I do like the whole 'Hey love, pass the cheese grater' thing, it's so cute, I might try that one day when I actually get a boyfriend, and I'll probs say it in Science or art just to be funny.

I think that these are passing comments things, because I call my friends doll and sweety all the time and they call me chuck and babe and honey and hun etc etc, it's just a thing we do, we just say it. It's how it is.

I prefer the generic comment thingy more to pet naes, actually... I'd so give you a rep but it won't let me XD
