I'd say in general most people aren't aware of what's happening in continents over. I can understand why some Europeans would say that, entire countries with different languages, cultures and attitudes are no more than a few hours drive. It's hard not to be aware of what's going on. Not to say that people in Yurope are guaranteed to be more worldly, just stating that things are more in your face.

Also for the record, I'm only saying this because I rarely see Europeans(not saying OP is one) usually direct this towards Murricans. Never towards Africans, South/Central American, Australians, Middle Easterners, Indians, Chinese, other Asians, etc. etc. As a rule of thumb, I think most people tend to care about personal problem before those of their community/city/region/nation/continent/solar system/whatever. Overall though, US probably has its hands in the most pies when it comes to international affairs.

It's pretty obvious what I voted and I'm not American.

I'm glad my post wasn't laughed at or given the "way to over-think it dude" treatment. Studying international politics (specifically focusing on Asia) makes it pretty hard to not either deeply respect America or utterly despise it. It might not've literally made the world out of a cloud of hydrogen atoms and heat but it's hard to overstate how different the world would probably be without America.

I've not met enough of the people to judge, but I think one of the main reasons you guys get all that hate is your god-damned controlling power hungry meddling imperialist government.
