Rape manga and its influence on mindset

FYI: I'm not one of those crazy feminists who want Rapelay and all those sorts of games/anime/manga banned. I merely want to discuss the effects of certain rape-involving mangas on the mindsets of their readers/players.
Though in real life, the majority of people are now informed about the facts on rape (no means no, what constitutes it, etc.), many of us also read manga or watch hentai/games where the line gets blurred quite often.
For instance, a girl who is raped by a guy in one chapter might initially refuse to consent, but after being her pleas being ignored can seem to enjoy the encounter. Other stories and plots have the victim turn into a sex-crazed nymphomaniac, making readers feel as if they wanted it all along despite their dissent.
I feel like a lot of these sorts of stories can definitely be a turn on, but I worry about their effect on actual, real-life standards. If someone is getting mixed messages (from life: rape is rape, no way around it; from entertainment: it can work out in the end, just go with it) can't that be very dangerous and hurtful in their sexual life?
What's your take on these issues?

I think the reason that hentai is such a stir in the media now-a-days is because there are some people out there who don't know better. So they fuck it up for all the people who do know the difference.
The age limit of 18 for porn and hentai and all that stuff isn't meant to keep kids who won't understand what they are seeing (I knew what sex was when I was 10) out, it's to keep people who aren't mature enough to know the difference between reality and fiction out.

A person has to keep the real and fake worlds separate and understand that the Real World is the place we live in. If a fake story influences a rational person so much as to drive them to commit rape (or any crime) in Real Life, then that person had a weak mindset to begin with. So if someone is getting mixed messages about this kind of content, they need to stop and think a little bit about how the Real World works. Though these stories sometimes hit close to home, they are still completely fictional. It's supposed to appeal to our fantasies, whether they be good or bad. So what goes down in a fictional story (of any kind) will more than likely not fly in the Real World.
Although, I'd be the first to laugh my ass off if I ever heard a person's reason for raping someone was that they thought they'd eventually enjoy it because that's what happened in an H-Manga.

I'd agree with you on the first point, for sure. But even when you know the difference, it still can get to you: for example, faced with information about a rape situation, are you more likely to pass it off as "oh, girl's fault clearly/guy's fault clearly" instead of taking it as serious/non-judgmental?
Though I am sure everyone here doesn't go around committing sexual crimes irl, it's bothersome that we've become so desensitized to them.

are you more likely to pass it off as "oh, girl's fault clearly/guy's fault clearly" In the U.S. Court System, there was actually a case where, to determine the guilty party, the situation at the time and the girls demeanor had to be taken into account before a verdict could be reached.
Now you have to admit, that sometimes a girl is just asking for it (be it demeanor or anything like that), guys aren't ALWAYS the one at fault. But there are times where it was clearly something that should not have happened, period.

if one have a weak mindset... than get the "foot" out of these fantasie worlds. seriously there is just way too many morons running around these days. and the fact that they cant tell the difference between fantasy and reality or trying to turn fantasy into reality is just... (lack of better words) dumb. BEWARE of those narutard cosplay guys out there

I do not believe that rape manga can be attributed to any misdeed that anyone might commit in real life because if 10,000 people read a rape manga and only 1 person commits the actual crime then its not a question of did the material cause the action but rather the fact that the 1 person already had the predisposition to commit rape. Now I do believe that any medium can create a desensitization effect including rape manga.

"Rape" forced sex out of the blue is a heavy theme in hentai but so is Incest
Hentai is a means of exploring the taboo the perverse in a purely fictional and constructive manner
Were only human after all
Now if in "real life" when someone blames there actions on someone/something in this case hentai it's nothing really new
People who commit hanus~crimes are cowards and only have themselves to blame

I visit Little White Butterflies every day, but I don't want to rape a little girl with a dildo as big as my arm, or mindebreak a girl to be a human toilet/cumdump.
I'm glad that hentai is only fictional, 'cuz I couldn't watch it knowing it that someone was hurt. So, um yeah, what I prefer in hentai most of it would break atleast one law, and someone could get hurt, and I don't want that.

Regardless of whether the media involved influences people's judgement, at the end of the day you're still responsible for your own actions. It's not about what rapists read, what they eat, where they live, how they were brought up. You can't let them off the hook by blaming this stuff on external factors. Unless they're seriously insane to the point of not being able to think rationally, at some point they CHOSE to commit a crime.
I'm very strongly of the opinion that the media and fantasy should remain what they are, a realm in which anything is possible without harm to others. I can understand restricting access for children, etc., but restricting access to media for adults smacks a bit of thoughtcrime to me.
Community standards are enforced by the community itself being strict and intolerant of deviation from accepted norms of behaviour towards others. Using manga/games/etc as a scapegoat for rapists and other violent/sexual criminals is the exact opposite of that.
Obviously my views are biased due to the way I choose to spend a lot of my free time, but you better believe I spend a lot of time thinking about this very topic.

Here's the thing:
No matter what happens in hentai or how it's presented, real life is real life and fantasy is fantasy. Desensitivity is one thing, but it's no excuse for disregarding or not understanding the real-life implications and circumstances of rape.
No matter how hentai depicts rape, it's still a terrible criminal act in real life, as it should be. While a good amount of hentai I consume involves rape, among other depraved sex acts, I'm still extremely disgusted at the prospect of rape in real life.

Co-sign everyone in this thread, its all about seperating fantasy from reality, like all those Yaoi crazy fan girls, do you honestly belive those chicks want guys that have been raped and dominated by other men? but its the fantasy of it that turns them on (i guess), its all about being strong enough mentally to tell the difference.

I don't see how this is any different than say 1st person shooter games. Sure, there's likely an oddball that doesn't need to be playing them and is a total psychopath, but everyone else knows better. I don't particularly have a thing for this kind of manga usually, but sometimes it's awkwardly fun. Obviously only when its not realistic etc. (the girl ends up enjoying it or whatnot). The realism type that manages to show up here and there is quite unwatchable/unreadable for me. Your mileage may vary.

Everyone's already spoken my opinions on the matter. So, instead of boring everyone by parroting what's already been said quite eloquently, I shall address a different, but related, issue.
The traditional Japanese mindset has a different view of sexuality than the Western world does. The traditional view of what a woman should be like in bed is 鮪女 (maguro-onna, lit. "tuna-woman") - a woman who lies in bed passively, like a fish on the cutting board, and lets the man do all the work and command her. For the Japanese, it's considered shameful for a woman to seek fulfillment of her sexual desires - doubly so for her to take the initiative in sex - and shame is considered a very bad thing in Japan (and many other Asian countries).
This is why, in manga and anime, you'll commonly see women covering their faces or expressing their embarrassment during sex, saying "no", "not there", etc., despite wanting the opposite, or apologizing for "being such a lewd woman" when acting on sexual desires that most of us in the West would consider [/i]normal[/i].
With all this in place, it becomes difficult for many Westerners to understand that this is considered the "proper way" for a woman to express herself during perfectly consensual sex. The uninitiated might see it as the woman being forced into the act, i.e. rape.
In reality, Western influence has allowed these antiquated notions of sexuality and propriety to be disposed-of, but the old ways still persist in porn.

If someone is fucked up enough to be influenced by a hentai we as a society have much bigger problems to deal with.I'm not to say rape isn't a big problem I am saying that his/her mental health is more of a problem because who knows what else he/she might do.

Rape has been around before manga, the written word, probably pictographs (writings on cave walls). Porn rape, either video and manga, may arouse a person short-term. People have the will power to control this function except those with mental issues. The mental issue can be cause by chemical/harmonal inbalances but that is curable. The mental instability caused by unknown facotrs are being or trying to be treated by psychologists/psychiatrists. These professionals are still in their learning steps.

these links sort of explain the cultural diffarece in manga, and an explanation on why their depiction of rape in hentai is as it is and what its ment to be enturpretid as.
Personally i think that people who don't have a social life ( the ones who spend all of their time inside with little to no interaction with the real world ) are the most likely to be influenced by rape hentai because their unaware of how real peopl react and feal in real situations.

I would rather say that it's not the hentai or porn that makes the person like that, he probably was like that before and that's why he started to watch/read the hentai/porn, and well if a person is that mentally instable of course he could get bad influence from that kind of stuff. But most of us can control our lusts and distinguish fantasy from reality. I admit myself to have read that kind of doujinshi and such stuff, and to have fantasised about rape and similar stuff, but I've kept it to that. I don't think I'd ever go and actually rape someone IRL, I think that I can control my urges and my lusts. I've never been in such a situation, but yeah I think I could. And most people are the same. Just a very very small number are that mentally unstable to not be able to do that..
Having read some doujinshi doesn't make you a rapist, it's just a fetish and sexual fantasy like any other. Better to fap to fictional rape than to actually go out and rape someone for real, anyway :p

The FPS topic that was brought up linked something in my head. Conversely what IF! rape mangas are HELPING the rapist inside of us!? Maybe crazies who want to shoot people instead channel it through their games or whatever. As well as channel their rapyness through rapy hentai? I know when I want to rape people (aka just get horny), I look at hentai to relieve myself.

Rape isn't about sex. It's about violence. That is the big difference between real world rape and hentai. Granted there are variations, rape is about the violence, the fear in the girl's eyes and any other physical abuse she may incur. Rapists who go to jail are always about the violence. But if a regular guy who has never raped a girl before get's mad at a girl for saying no and still continues, he get's pissed and that turns to violence.
On a side note, I hate any kind of rape in my hentai. I will never understand how people enjoy it.
