But well, if you want to nitpick, then really...
Rat and mouse, both are very similar in structure and cell types. Makes sense, as they both evolved from a common origin. But in biology, we divide two organisms into seperate species when they are unable to reproduce...
So... yeah... we basicaly stuck them together and see if any combination of the two will mate. They either didn't mate for behavioural or anatomical differences, or they didn't succeed in producing a live progeny, or produced a inviable progeny.
