This is true. Too many newfags nowadays do not seem to understand the fundamental difference between trolling and flaming. So I'll elaborate a bit. For one, the purpose of trolling to cause maximum disruption and argument, as well as frustration from as many users and possible. Verbally attacking a specific user is not trolling, since trolling must always be implied, not directly stated.

This is better illustrated with an example from two threads. Let's first look at one posted by GameON two years ago:

That thread is NOT a troll. It is a dedicated thread formulated for the sole purpose of attacking me and the Apple userbase. Anesthetize's posts in general are known to be often aggressive in nature inside IB, but make no mistake - they are not trolling. Trolling always consist of other notions not literally written into the post, but implied. As a result, my only reply in that thread also does not consist of any trolling, matching the OP's serious tone.

Now as you can see, this thread is completely different from GameON's. The OP only consists of one message of him apparently being annoyed that his mother's E-Mails always end with "Sent from my iPad". He does not say anything else noteworthy. However, this post contains a subliminal connotation to annoy me that other users might not necessarily see - thus it is implied. That's what it means to troll.

It should be noted that the responses provided by kaitou1412 and myself later in that thread are also "trolling". On the surface there is nothing verbally aggressive, but those posts are designed to frustrate Sindalf. Thus, they qualify as "troll'.

Hopefully this makes the concept of "trolling" a little bit easier to understand for the newfags.

well you seem to take the meaning of words seriously.
I'll just add, I already know the difference between "Trolling" and "Flaming". I always refer to users as "Trolls" who like to instigate for no apparent reason, just the same as I refer to everybody as a "Guy".

That's the whole point of what I was trying to tell you - you're using the word incorrectly. Real trolls are pretty intelligent individuals.

Well I never got use to the whole "meme" references of everybody, so I usually cut most of them. I guess it's just the way I am when it comes to online stuff :/

Well I do admit, there's a proper way to give some users criticism, and Anus-kun isn't doing it right.

Although calling people instigators rather than refuting their points is pretty weak. Now it just seems like a weird self-defense mechanism.
