Have you watched Hajime yourself? If yes and you still recommend Ashita then i'll concede.
I grew up watching Ashita and went on and watched Hajime no Ippo when i heard it was fun, they're both great, especially Hajime no Ippo, but it can't compete with what i consider the greatest Anime ever, period. if you can handle old animation, i suggest you give it a shot.

Not a fan of sport animes/movies. I always find the plot formulaic and predictable in the sense that the protagonist always ends up on top(underdog stories I hate especially).
