It’s kind of like one of those stupid trends in high-school you had to endure — yes that one with the spoons and the dogs.. and the… stop. For some reason the masses seem to have an odd affinity for doing retarded things because everyone else does them; there’s nothing fundamentally wrong with “following the crowd”, but when the crowd is retarded it shouldn’t be followed. Now the crowd (which at this point in the discussion represents a metaphorical concept) isn’t always retarded, though unfortunately this is practically never the case as Sturgeon’s Law is alive and well. We all know the average anime fan has a penchant for being retarded, so when you combine these two concepts you get things that even great demons in the 7th layer of hell would be frightened of.
