Interesting.

The short version is I think it's a pretty good idea and I'll give you whatever help you need.

The long version has a bunch of stuff going on. This gets pretty heavily into where I see LWB going, so sorry if it's wordy.

Basically, I've got a bunch of reservations about LWB's image as it stands anyway. Because of the nature of what I like, and the stuff that I know other translators will work on (and Torwyn and Masamune's interests too) we're always going to have a fair amount of extreme content. But because that stuff still has a reasonably limited audience compared to the more mainstream stuff I'd ultimately like it if there was more "normal" translations on the site. I think it's more healthy for the group if we're a "normal" group that also does some weird stuff, than if we're that creepy group who only does rape and guro. I'm pretty sure the creepy group way doesn't lead anywhere good.

That said, the group has essentially formed around the example I set when I started, which means it's pretty out there. This tends to drive the "normal" translators away. Such is life, and that's a problem for me to deal with as it comes. I intend to slowly introduce more mainstream stuff into the releases, and translate them myself if necessary.

Obviously, for me personally I'd love it if you and your friends released through LWB and helped change the image that way. But I think there's distinct advantages to having a separate group. Most importantly perhaps, you'd attract translators that would never consider LWB no matter how mainstream we become. That benefits both Team Vanilla and the community as a whole. Also, I feel that your leadership skills are quite strong and I think that two well led small groups are better than one large one. Particularly given that we communicate well and I see no reason why the two groups can't help each other should the situation arise.

So basically, if you want to set up Team Vanilla I'll give you all the support I can. You're free to ask the editors here if they'd like to help you (I'd like it if you did it publically instead of PMing them though). If you want me to advertise your new website or your releases then I will. If you need books bought then you guys are still welcome to ask. I've asked Jacob if he can give you a title, and there's a private translators forum that I may have mentioned before. I asked him to let you into that too. When you guys are ready to release through FAKKU you'll be able to ask him that for yourself.

I'd like it if the two groups could co-operate at least, so if there's anything you can think that LWB can do to help out Team Vanilla just let me know. I hope it works out well for you guys! :D I'm sure you'll be busy setting things up over the next wee while so don't stress about LWB releases. You saw the enormous pile Torwyn just put out, we'll be good for a bit. :D
