Well, no place in the States... or anywhere in the West, I guess. I'm surprised I even thought for a moment Bangladesh was safe(r).
Nowhere is 100% safe. But that's no reason to be paranoid 24/7. I lived in bad towns and bad neighbourhoods before (one time a murder happened only two doors away). Just take precautions. Locking doors should be a reflex. Keep your phone nearby (not a problem for most people these days), be aware of your surroundings, etc.
Someone tried to mug me once and I got a little scratched during the scuffle- but nothing worse than that (when it wasn't my fault, at least).

It could have been uncle freaky off his meds.Why the fuck would anyone drive from Fresno down to Santa Monica to shoot people? When plenty of people in Fresno already need to be gunned down?
