Yes. The point of vocaloid isn't to just make nice songs, but to let the producer make anything they want. Hence, that is why all (with the exception of Mayu, the lovely yandere vocaloid 03) all vocaloids have no personality. You want Miku to be tsundere? She'll be tsundere. You want Gumi to be a teacher? She'll be a teacher. You want Meiko to be a sweet housewife? You got it.

They could still make an anime though. Look at Persona 3 and 4. They both have "blank" main characters who were given personalities for the animes. I guess fans may get upset if each Vocaloid isn't how they envisioned them though.

That's the point. Because they are blank, a fan or producer can make them single or not, straight or gay, going to school or working two jobs and trying to take care of a family of four. It's the main reason vocaloid has become what it is today.

And to point out another actual problematic thing for vocaloid, not all vocaloids are made by Crypton. So there would be multiple copyrights to deal with etc.
