I have never had much a taste for Western games. They're pretty much all dull MMOs or FPS'.

Deus Ex Machina? Half Life? Portal? Mass Effect? Batman Arkham City? Dishonored? Uncharted? Heavy Rain? Red Dead Redemption?
It is interesting considering how Japanese game makers are struggling to make good game now a day, except Nintendo. You have the Final Fantasy that Square Enix got butchered, Street Fighter which also got butchered by Capcom by making the game easy for mainstream audience, and good game like Bayonetta or vanquish got shoved under the shelve. I am sad because I have invested the most on Capcom with Devil May Cry, Megaman, Street FIghter, Resident Evil, and etc, and it felt like the company is going down hill.
If you noticed, most games released from Jap publishers such as Konami, Square Enix, and etc are mostly developed by Western. If you only focus on the mainstream blockbuster western game, then it would mostly be dull FPS like Call of Duty. Then, there are good games like Dishonored and Walking Dead that didn't get much attention until it got released.

I kind of like the idea of living in a big city. Especially when thinking about the different kinds of people I'd meet.

Is there a Western game that has a great story with a fun yet simplistic style of gameplay? Well that would be Journey.[/spoil]I can see your point. One thing I noticed with Japanese game is that they tend to explore the main character background while many western game barely mention them.
Top of my head I can think of
Limbo - similar to Journey, but in platform
Walking Dead Telltale game - first game I actually cried

Flower is another game I can appreciate. Thatgamecompany generally does a good job with their titles, and I support them partly because I'd love to see a full-blown store released title from them. That's not to say I don't love their short-and-sweet titles though. As someone who loves subtlety, it's hard for me to turn down Flower and Journey. I never played flOw though, lol.

I give "tough love" very often. I get sick of someone acting a certain way (usually against themselves; ie. very pessimistic) and I eventually want to shake them around and yell at them to stop. But because I can't do that, I use "tough love". Sometimes it works, sometimes I just end up wasting my time; either way, I find it better than "mothering" the person just to encourage it, resulting in a negative reinforcement.
