When is something evil?

hmm... it's too subjective. but let's see... a simple definition would be deliberate pain...

That would be deliberate lol.

Would it be evil if the society says so? Or when you think it is?

It is often easier to accept the latter definition while accepting the possibility of others defining it differently.

How are laws effective, then?

My way of defining it would naturally give rise to conflicts. To me it's simply a matter of deciding when something is worth the trouble.
