The Final Fantasy 13-series is sci-fi, so is Ar tonelio .
Xenosaga would be a PS2 game though.

you can actually see a good deal of the World in ZoE.
you can freely move through the Jupiter Colony in the 1st one and the 2nd has pretty nice places as well
there is also a SRPG for the Gameboy Advance - The Fist of Mars, which was kinda cool.
