About that pic, I am not all that sure, it probably can be taken as other ways too, but it's probably not about being short.
I am no expert or even experience in relationship and love, but it looks like, while both of them did grow up, she just grew up at a different pace and wanted something different in her life, she just saw the boy she grew up with, as the same "boy" even after they'd both grown up. He pretty much got friend-zoned but never realized it. At least that's how I am interpreting it.
