Speaking for Ar tonelico, endings almost dont affect the sequel at all. :p

Yeah, well, isn't plot of each game centered on different pillar and world that surrounds it?

In some more integrated games, some choices do tend to change the world;

For example, in Mass Effect, if you played a positive character, you'll notice that due to your actions world improved...whereas if you were jerk, game does get darker (the fact sequel was substantially more morally ambiguous and dark then original notwithstanding). And it was awesome when you got to run in with characters that survived due to your decisions - one of which is incredibly cool Tyrannosaurus Rex lizard guy, who is an overlord of whole planet and welcomes you like a boss. Fans, myself included, cried.


Or Witcher series, when some choices will reshape the political map of the world (for bad...or worse), and tend to split into entirely different storyline (sequel had two distinct story paths, each with at least two different endings, I think).


...Just felt like saying, hahaha.

Lol pillar. That's a nice way of putting it. And the choices do influence the story. A very significant part of it, even. But hey, asking the developers to make Ar tonelico 3 plays differently depending on who Croix chose in Ar tonelico 2 is just pushing it... and it kills the whole you dun need to play the prequel to get this game thing.
