Since it's the same goos old mother I have since 07 I can't be picky. Tis an AMD Athon II x2 260 3,2GHz 65 Wats and double the copmputing power of my current Sempron 3000+ 1,61GHz

All good. I love it. I seriously with I had the money to get a quad core processor but This baby here is pretty solid. ^_^

This was actually most powerful one still on sale compatible with my Motherboard. Discovered it by accident actually and for 59 Euros (if I'd write that in national currency I doub you'd get the picture :D) Worth buying.

I have my eyes on a AMD FX 4170. then i need a new motherboard... Then new Ram. Then New case, Pretty much everything exept HDD. GPU is under question since im afraid it will catch fire soon.

Heh I need a whole new machine. Upgrading this one is only because I can't afford doing so otherwise.

Yeah. I was thinking about at least quad core CPU (since I do some encoding and stuff) on hi-frequency with a lodas of L1 L2 and L3 cache. At least 8 GB of DDR3 RAM that means I will need to upgrade my non-linux software as well. and some 1-2GB GPU preferably I think Nvidia, but ATI have better support for Linux so a bit of an dilema. I'm also thinking about getting separaed sound card. Thatall in Big Tower case and actually I couldn't care less for iluminance and the other stuff. I need a computer not Las Vegas.

LOL yeah... Why are you thinking about a sound card instead of just using the intergrated one on whatever mobo you buy?

If you want professional sounds, get sound card with radio lamps. For audiofiles or whatever those are called.

Stand alone is better for music developer.
