Kamp Kuzma: The Operators' Campgrounds (For Operating)

I'm also quite relieved that he's returning. I've been running out of things to do on this forum and am reduced to just posting firearms related news which has actually somehow bored the heck out of me. Must be from doing it for so long. Might be a bit harsh to say this but I'm finally glad Kei is returning so that I don't have to watch over the thread anymore.

Meh, I guess I'm over thinking things. Kei says that's my main flaw, that I'm too worried about hurting other people's feelings.

Mmmmmm, sorry that I'm no good with modern military stuff besides armchair discussion on jet planes ;~;
Although, I'd say my knowledge about everything pre-1950 would be much better for an amateur.
If there ever was a gun I wanted to own, it would have been Mosin-Nagant.

This... thats the gun I want

Mosin-Nagant was a bona fide piece of weaponry, as was most of the European rifles in the early 20th Century. If we were talking about WWII rifles, I'd be conflicted with choosing either the Mosin or the Karabiner. Both rifles are too good to step away from.

The weapon of choice of the White Death.
The iron-sighted version, I mean.
Yeah, it's a very durable design, with precision and firepower. And it even looks classic. Not sure how much It would compare to the Masuer, but I heard they were about equal in performance (with Mosin maybe being even better). I wouldn't be surprised if there are still Russian units armed with it somewhere...M1 Garand sounds cool, but I just can't get over the clip system. It sounds like a monumental moment of idiocy on America's part.

Not sure who the White Death is but my most renowned user of the Mosin was Russian sniper Vasiliy Zaitzev.
Funny because the rifle is much their symbol in military terms, they use it in parades and ceremonies. It should still be acknowledged though, being one of the first gas operated, semi-auto rifles, the thing was good enough that they kept it till Korea. If I wanted a semi-auto rifle from that era, I'd have to decide between the German Gewehr 41 and Russian Tokarev SVT 40. The former being created by copying the latter.

Simo Hayha, the deadliest sniper on Earth
I agree, M1 Garand is not a bad rifle, it's the whole clip design that doesn't make sense compared to the rest of the gun (even original creator wanted a normal magazine, which was opposed by one of those commissions/ordinance boards/whatever). It was still more effective then Mauser 98 though, given that troopers didn't have to eject the casings after every shot. Pretty sure Patton referred to it as the gun that won the war, or something like that.
If there is one favorite German weapon of mine, it would have to be the MG 42.

"Hitler's Buzzsaw" as the Allies called it. Indeed, it is a most revered weapon, one of the most advanced during the times. High rate of fire coupled with quick barrel changing feature made its image. Imagine if the Germans could have supplied enough of those to it's infantry. And yes, Patton did refer to the M1 as the rifle that would win the war.
If I was to pick a favorite German weapon, it'd have to be the Fallschirmjager Gewehr 42 aka Paratrooper rifle 1942.

It was also fairly ergonomic for machine gun, being easier on the arm when firing.
Little thing, but helps.
Is that the selective-fire one? The one with the magazine on the side?
Good Question.

Yeah, I also made a post about a firearms firm that made a modernized version of the rifle as well. I think it was one of my recent ones.

Yeah, that was a pretty neat gun.
Utility-wise, the British Sten was awesome. You could have made that gun from a punch of pipes. It's almost, if not more of a guerrilla gun as the AKs.

Speaking of the Sten, I found a scan of old blueprints for the Sten gun, these things were so easy to make, you could get a car manufacturer to make them. Still not as good as the PPsh or PPS-43.

Yeah. I heard Polish partisans made them out parts of hospital equipment and water pipes.
Sometimes, the advancement lies in simplicity.
Well then, I have to be off for a while.
Until we meet again, Valeriy.

D'aww. Too late for such a great discussion. I respect Kei a lot but to fear someone I need to meet him face to face and see his/her eyes.
I'm up for Haya because I think it's more creditable to believe his kills than everything that was written about Zajcev. He was in deed one of the best Soviet snipers but too much propaganded to believe everything.
What do you expect from a gun that took 2,5 British pounds of manufacturing cost and was intended for decentralized manufacturing thruout British islands with minimum of specialized tools?
But Sten was also often malfunctioning because of the magazine actinag like handle causing it to jam often if the mag was even slightly turned.
