A lot of their reactions amuse me.
Mostly that they are trying to defend the move to do this.
"As long as I can hear it, I'm good."
Yeah, most of those responses are full of shit. Unless you understand Japanese quite well, you won't hear these types of things for the most part. Why? Because your brain is already adapting the text you read as what they are saying. Seriously. Unless you sit and pay attention to what they are saying, you won't pick up the majority of it.
This includes the pretty subtle -san and -chan which honestly start sounding like they are part of the names and words.
There are pretty much only two ways you'll hear this if you don't understand the language. If you are actively trying to hear it, which most aren't. Or if it's by itself and you partially know what to look for. Like them just stating thanks, and you knowing what they typically say for it.
But yeah. Pretty much every time else you won't pick it up unless pointed out to you. Which is why it is a problem to get rid of the honorifics like that.

Yeah, wrong choice of words, gg make it pretty obvious and I realise the process can absorb a fuckload of time. It's hard to explain though. I meant to say that you'll do the bare minimum in most regards, but you will make sure to do things like this which you see as essential. The subs might be full of minor errors, there might not be any karaoke or preview translations, but you will invest the time to do what you know is necessary to do the series any justice.
It isn't that the companies don't know the facts on the significance of honorifics, or so I take it, but that they can't truly 'get it' from an outside perspective.
