I get the feeling they grow off of some thing some guy says when drunk or wasted on something.
A friend and I used to do a spoken word version of Magical Trevor in boring and mostly quiet settings for our own amusement and to fill those moments and such. It actually works pretty well in practice, you should try it some time.
