(Admittedly if I ever heard someone say they cried over FF7 I would kick them in the nuts too, mostly because this means they were operating on the assumption that there was something worth crying about in FF7 besides the fact that people think it was good.)

But you do realise that although FF is really popular, the majority of people haven't actually played it? I mean a few million out of 6 billion isn't a very high stat... So I wouldn't really think of yourself as some edgy minority just because you haven't played it.
