Try your calculating skill!!

This is only a Junior High School math problem, but I think it's not that easy XD

There are 2 towns, namely A and B

Miya walks from A to B at 100 meter/minute

Humba walks from B to A at 80 meter/minute
Yeah walks from B to A at 75 meter/minute
They started to walk at exactly the same time
Miya met Yeah 6 minutes after Miya met Humba previously

How many meters is the distance from A to B?


See how long does it takes for you to solve it..

If you can't solve it, then your junior high math grade must be questioned XD

Ren needs around 5-7 minutes to calculate the right answer without any calculating devices.. I guess those with IQ more than 140 can calculate it around that time >_>..

as for me, I already knew the answer before, so I never measure my time..

Edit: less one zero

2268000 meters?
Spoiler:

1st met occurs at

100t + 80t = x

t = seconds
x= distance of AB

x = 180t --> equation 1

2nd met occurs at

x = 100(360+t)s + 75(t+360)s

x = 175t + 63000

from equation 1
x = 180t

180t = 175t + 63000

5t = 63000

t= 12600 seconds

x = 180(12600)

x = 2268000 meters


....if wrong, feel free to laugh at me and correct me as I too will like to know the real answer

XD .. Wrong~.. You don't need to make it complicated, Yeacchi..

Like I said, it's only a Junior High problem.. Ren solved it without any calculating devices and with a PS3 controller in his hand.. Think simple ^_^

This just shows how much algebra I have forgotten. I'm used to adding and subtracting to much. Accounting makes you forget things >.<

How many meters is the distance from A to B?

My answer is 37800 meters.

Solution:
Spoiler:
Assume the distance from A to B is "Y".

First equation: Miya met Humba previously.
They started walking at the same time. So, they meet at the same num. of minutes they took to walk.

Their time is to be covered by "X".
100X + 80X = Y

100X - Time it took for Miya to meet Humba, X being the time.
80X - Time it took for Humba to meet Miya, X being the time.

Second equation: Miya met Yeah.
They started walking at the same time. So, they meet at the same num. of minutes they took to walk.

Their time is to be covered by "Z".
100Z + 75Z = Y

100Z - Time it took for Miya to meet Yeah, Z being the time.
80Z - Time it took for Yeah to meet Miya, Z being the time.

Third equation: Miya met Yeah 6 minutes after Miya met Humba previously

Taking Miya's part in the first equation, and increasing X by 6, and equate it with Miya's part in the second equation:

100(X+6) = 100Z

Eliminate the 100 part for both, and we're left with:

X+6 = Z

Fourth equation: We combine the three equations.

100X + 80X = 100Z + 75Z (since they both are equal to Y)
180X = 175Z (combine)
36X = 35Z (divide both by 5)

Substitute Z with the third equation,

36X = 35(X+6)
36X = 35X + 210
36X-35X = 210
X = 210

If X+6 = Z and X = 210, then
Z = 216

Going back to the first 2 equations, and substituting,

EQ1: 100(210) + 80(210) = Y
21000 + 16800 = Y
37800 = Y

EQ2: 6 minutes after Miya met Humba...
100(216) + 75(216) = Y
21600 + 16200 = Y
37800 = Y

So, it's 37800 meters.


Hopefully I got it right ^_^... dang, there goes one post-it.

EDIT: Tnx to mazda, I noticed I wrote "seconds" instead of "minutes". Silly me.

I demand an explaination about how Ren solved it without a calculator holding a PS controller.

I had to take a paper to do this..
