Which got me thinking... what qualifies as genuine conversation?

When 2 political enemies meet, they could have an in-depth conversation, but with hypocrisy involved. On the other hand, 2 forum members may be genuinely glad to see one another, after a long period of inactivity. :D

Genuine conversation is what extends significantly past the standard greeting and consists of discussion of anything that isn't petty gossip.

Of course- what constitutes as petty gossip is entirely subjective. Fashion would not be gossip for those who design clothes, for instance.

As for the political discourse, I suppose it technically qualifies. It may not be sincere, but it is a conversation concerning matters of importance. (At least, that's what they should be talking about).

Putting conversations and discussions aside, how do debate and arguments fit into the picture? I reckon debates are more civil, while arguments tend to be heated.

I think I just meant that I would rather people come here and discuss things they want to talk about, or at least acknowledge people's thoughts in the thread instead of just rolling in and hugging and posting random gifs and saying pretty much nothing of substance.
