Western Anime/Manga

What do you think about anime and manga made in America or Canada or anywhere outside of Asia or Japan really. Also, can it even be called anime or manga if it's made outside of Asia or Japan?
I personally own a book attempting a manga style called ''ONCE IN A BLUE MOON'' vol.1, it's published only in America by oni-press. It was given to me as some random gift from a friend and it reads left to right with the spine on the left hand side. It's basically about some girl who gets sucked into a fairy-tale. The art is pretty awful to be honest and even down right horrendous in some places. Without getting too much into the whole story and characters. It's awful. But then you look at an artist like Mark Crilley who is a white American who spent some time living in Japan and then came back who does amazing manga and anime artwork, it's probably the best I have ever seen. I haven't actually read any of his mangas so I couldn't tell you about the story or characters personally, but I hear it's pretty good.
As far as anime is concerned I really can't think of many cartoons attempting the style. I can think of avatar the last air bender off the top of my head, and that show was pretty awesome.

It wouldn't exactly be called anime or manga if it's made outside Japan I think. It would be cartoon and comic books.

That is it correct?
Provide the source next time if you wanna talk about it.
And you're wrong, plenty of comics use the art style in the Once in a blue moon comic book.
And I even seen it in webcomics as well I believe.
Looks decent, Dunno if I like it or not, but I do want to take a look at it at very least.

Meaning that something like spongebob could technically be called American anime. But over time the term has changed to mean Japanese cartons specifically. As far as manga I don't now if it's a term exclusive to Japan or not.

Hey we're all entitled to our opinions. To me the art just looks really butchered. The background look nice and even the dragons and whatever look good, but the faces of the human characters and just the human characters in general look pretty bad to me. I also don't like the characters or the story personally. As for the source, what are you talking about? I didn't use that as a source I said that I own a copy of the book.

I still consider the Avatar series to be animu even though it's Western-made. Does that count?
I'm still waiting on Ladybug - which is supposed to come out this year - which is part Jap part French.

Japan makes anime and manga. Anyone else makes anime/manga-styled media. Popular examples include Teen Titans, Scott Pilgrim, the new Thundercats, and maybe Avatar.

It has its own feel and artwork put into it. You can tell its western not just because of the art but because of the writing style and comedic usage of phrases that a westerner can understand instantly.

It's not anime or manga if it's western in full. It's comics or cartoons/animation.
Only exceptions I can think of are Dirty Pair (Western comic, made anime) and the Animematrix (Western films, mixed western/Japanese OVAs).

the thing that a lot of people don't know is that most western animation is actually drawn by korean people. the only thing done in america usually is the character design. the actual drawing is done by koreans.
but on-topic i would say if it's not from japan, it's not anime/manga. anime and manga refer specifically to stuff from Japan. after all stuff like Jojo's Bizzare Adventure and Vagabond have much more realistic art styles compared to most anime/manga but nobody will argue that they aren't manga.

In western anime there's a bigger standard for how the mouth moves. You'll notice in something like teen titans their lips are perfectly in sync with what they're saying, but the action scenes are lackluster. Whereas, in Japan there's usually only a mouth open mouth closed animation for when they're speaking, and the action scenes are amazing.

The Japanese end fell through, because the French end wouldn't pay enough for hand-done animation, if I recall correctly.
More recent images show a very 3D CG looking show... sigh.

Provide a link if you can? Because I spent hours looking for information relating to this but couldn't find anything.
I don't mind CG, though I would've preferred animu.

Aye I've seen that, but doesn't mention anything about the Jap end falling through. Unless I'm not looking hard enough.
Edit:
Zagtoon is a French production company on the rise, specializing in animated TV-series for kids. It was created in 2009 by Jeremy Zag and Jacqueline Tordjman, the latter of whom co-founded the Saban Company (Power Rangers, Inspector Gadget). Zagtoon has recently made a splash in the international TV-market by producing Ladybug, the #1 selection at the 2013 Mipcom Worldwide Screening. The show is to be co-produced with Method Animation, the Disney Channel, and Toei Animation in Japan, with Bandai developing the toys.
And the "Recent News" section doesn't mention falling out with Toei over funding.
