Why God, why? Why did this happen to me?

So today I was going to pick up my copy of Mass Effect 2 that I had pre-ordered at the Game Stop in the mall. As I was going to pay for it with a check, the cashier said that the check didn't clear when I most definitely have more than enough money in my bank account. To make matters worse I didn't have enough cash on hand to pay for it. So all I can ask is:

So when I go back I guess I'll have to drag out some of my old games to trade in and knock some of the cost off. I know it's not something I should be getting upset over but when this happened this was what my mind was thinking:
Anyone else have something similar happen to them?

@Longevity & Rovencrone:
@Yamazakuri Rojin: not entirely. A manga volume I had ordered at Barnes & Noble arrived early and I went to pick it up today. Luckily I had enough cash to pay for it.
@Gism88: It is possible. I HAVE made quite a few checks recently but none of them except one were over 70 dollars. The one check that was pretty large, I had to pay for some textbooks which ended up costing me $212.00 total. I did some math after that I figured that I've spent around $360 total via checks before I WAS going to write that check. Take off that $212 and I've only spent $150 for non-education related expenses. The only explanation I can think of is that the bank saw this large cash withdrawal as some kind of change in my spending habits and was taking precautions.
@catfish:

I've had my 360 since last summer. Hopefully I won't get the dreaded red ring anytime soon.

Tegumi

I'm sorry, I don't feel your pain. I have been playing this game for 4 days now.

That really sucks. I'm having so much playing the game that I might end up not sleeping tonight. Maybe it's karma? Or some other silly superstition?

Just chill dude, it's just probably some mistake in the system.. Why don't you just go back there and explain to the cashier person in a nice *ahem* manner about the check and etc. If that doesn't work, try a lawyer and suing, that would most likely scare the shit out of them.

Normaly the money has to sit in the bank till it's cleared or some money is going to come out in other bill payment

So I just got off the phone with the bank and they said there's nothing wrong with my bank account and that it must be the cash register that the Game Stop employee was using. Anyway I guess I'll go back today and see if it works this time.
EDIT: So I just got back from the mall a few hours ago and I found out what the hell is going on. Apparently the mall has some stupid ass policy on purchases over $50 and that are paid by check. It seems that they "don't have enough information" on me to allow me to make my purchase.

To me it would seem like the only pieces of information they would need are:
1.Whether or not the money is mine, which it is.
& 2. Whether or not I have enough money to pay for what it is I'm buying, which I do.
So I'm going to have to call the people in charge of that and raise some hell tomorrow.
