Zac Efron Death Note rumors

There's a rumor going around that he'd be cast in the American Death Note. God I hope it isn't true. I mean, I haven't watched it much, but I don't want what happened to Dragonball: Evo to happen again.

Because it's supposed to be a "western adaptation" and you know how those entertainment businesses hate Asians....

Why do you guys give a shit?
1. Zac Efron is (more or less) a teen idol, and by most sane accounts wouldn't sign his name to something like Death Note because it could alienate his fanbase.
2. Adaptations of cartoons often make for bad movies.
3. Adaptations of anime make for especially bad movies.
4. Western adaptations of Japanese works tend to be awkward because of cultural, aesthetic, and language boundaries.
5. Isn't Death Note purported to be a mediocre series? I heard it was like the My Chemical Romance of anime.
The most likely scenario is that this was a hoax concocted to give weeaboos aneurysms; what exactly would you expect if an American film studio got ahold of the Death Note license, regardless of Zac Efron?

Lulz the trailer was nothing. Try watching the first 5 minutes of the movie, it's pure horror (in the sense that it's unbelievably bad).

This has been going round for months and months. Tbh he says he genuinely likes the series and he isn't a terrible actor. They would probably fuck it up, but it couldn't be worse than the existing live action. Could it?

It can also be attributed to the fact that the "west" has better infrastructure to make higher quality live action movies. Dragon Ball Evo doesn't count - just pretend it didn't happen.
As for Zac Efron - I can see it happening. He can't be a teen idol much longer, even making a movie this year we wont see it until like 2012 when he'll already be like 23 or 24. This might be a good transfer for him - teens know what death note is, and at the same time the older audiences will probably be intrigued by a fast paced story of Death Note. Plus, he said before he was in talks to do Full Metal Panic, although acknowledging it probably wasn't going to work out.

I wouldn't mind, as long as the production budget is good, then I can see Zac Efron as being Light. I hate Light so it wouldn't bug me, wonder who would play L? ._.
Oh fuck, didn't Death Note take place in Japan...wtf...okay..scratch that bad idea. I say noo!!!
