Honestly I'd never heard or understood either of motemote prior to the contest either, but from I'm fairly certain I understand them now. "MoteMote" is basically "sexy", so the motemote contest is a contest where you vote for which anime chick is sexiest. If it were moe instead of mote, then it'd be more of cuteness thing instead of sexiness.

Smaller breasts are more appealing to some because it appears more youthful(be it a conscious or unconscious preference). Personally I prefer a B or C cup myself, just a nice handful.
