I don't agree that religion is the barrier from obtaining world peace. There is a VERY small percentage of radicals who take religion too far (such as 9/11), but that does not mean religion itself is the issue. I've studied Francis Schaefer, and he actually believes the opposite. he says that without a universal standard for morals (which comes from religion), Society will become corrupt. This is most evident by examining the collapse of Rome:
They tried to make a man (Caesar) an artificial standard for morals, but this brought about violence in dispute of who shall ascend to the throne. They tried to use artificial gods to control moral standards, but disagreements caused other gods to be created. ultimately, there was no universal standard for them to live by, so people began to fight for standards that benefited themselves. The Christians believed in a universal God, who was above any other authority. The roman government persecuted them because they believed in a universal truth above Caesar. Eventually, Rome collapsed due to violence and hatred among themselves. The only thing that survived was the christians, because they had a universal standard.
it's great that you want to obtain world peace, but it's really important that you examine history, and examine what the problem is. you seem to think religion is the problem, but I believe religion is the solution. I'm not suggesting that we force it upon people, but we can inspire our laws from it.
I myself am dangerously inspired by Code Geass, and I would like to create world peace. after countless hours thinking about it, I realized that the
only way to obtain it is to control the media. If I'm able to do that, I truly believe that I can create world peace.
That's a strong argument and I agree with most of what you said. Its not the scriptures that are at fault, but rather the people that manipulate the messages to suit their own bias and greed. However, I'm not suggesting we get rid of religion, I just "believe" that we don't need it anymore. In civilized cities, we have laws that are based on morals written in the bible and other religious text from across the globe. Those laws do not include go to church. IMO, I believe that the entity that we call God doesn't want to be worshiped.
The only expectation God has is to be the best you can be (A better version of yourself). i say this because I think God gave me an answer to my question (Q: Are you lonely?) via a lucid dream. I predict that by the time 2012 comes to an end, it'll be the beginning of the space age. We'll all evolve into hetero-sapiens rather than homo-sapiens. Once we colonize most of the galaxy, humanity will realize that we really are alone in this universe.
We'll get homesick for our mother planet, so we'll start sending subliminal messages into the minds of the humans that are still alive on the dying planet. Those remaining humans will go back to their roots and live off of the land. They'll continue to search for God, while the humans who left earth will continue to evolve. Then the earth will get swallowed up by the sun. Trillions of years later, the universe will return to nothingness. Only one star will be left.
That star has consumed all of the matter and energy. Being unable to sustain all that pressure, the star releases the matter and energy at a speed faster than light. This cycle will continue for all of eternity. I'm agnostic and this is my belief.
