Bacon on a burger: Is it necessary?

Does a good burger need bacon on it?

The other day, a friend and I had a discussion about the best fast food places to eat at. I went with IN-N-OUT ('cause I was born and raised in LA) and he went with Whataburger ('cause he's from Texas). His main issue with IN-N-OUT was that their burgers don't have bacon in them.

It eventually evolved into an argument about whether or not a burger actually needs bacon in it to be considered a good burger. He argued that it did because bacon adds a different texture and flavor and I argued that it didn't because the flavor bacon has is usually quite strong and it can take away from all the other flavors I enjoy in a burger. That, and it's a shit-load of grease and fat you're adding on to something that's already a heart attack waiting to happen.

Thoughts?

EDIT: Had to delete and re-post 'cause I derped on the poll options.

Nope. Because then, my whole burger tastes like bacon.

No, but everything is better with bacon.

Bacon is not necessary, but it's the nicer option. But my vote will be with "Depends on the burger.".

That's the sauce boss in you talking, bro.
0
No but if there isn't any I like to order a cup of bacon grease to dip it in.

Burger is good itself, and do is bacon.
So, probably eat the two separately.

Even if I order bacon on a burger, I never seem to eat it.
I'm not really... a bacon fan.
I love sausage, though.

Sausage is the bomb. Literally. It's like a flavor explosion in my mouthhhhhhhh.

Damn straight!

No. It overpowers the real taste of the burger.
0
Not a single yes yet. I would have expected one or two by now.

Sure is!

Given the way I eat my burgers... it hardly changes the taste. So I'll say unneeded because of the fat.

I would imagine it's just bacon flavouring, not actual bacon. Just like any flavour of ice-cream

Well, not Bacon per sé. Pigs do go into alot of products though. For example, the hair off a boar goes into making hair brushes. Their skin goes into making leather and emulating human skin for trainee tattoo artists, and their fat can be made into gelatin, which can be used for military purposes or to make sweets. Some of their internal organs are similar to humans' aswell, and there was even a story about a girl whose life was saved by having a pigs' organ donated to her. About her heart, might've been a ventricle, can't quite remember.
