Would it be worth it to do this?

So I have been told by stranger to download and start using Discord as its "the new way gamers communicate with each other". Personally, I don't see why, I am not into team based games, and I don't have many friends to really ultize the app. Futhermore, I have had really bad experiences with Snapchat and Instagram and social media apps. That being said, I have wanted to use Discord someday in the future, so is it worth go ahead, download, and try to use Discord?

I play FFXIV and the groupo am part of have discord, but i never use it as am a casual player.

There are many kinds of servers to chat in. Fakku's for example, is pretty active, and people just talk about whatever, and/or share lewd 2d pics. You don't necessarily need it for multiplayer gaming purposes.
