[ K o j i m a ]'s recent work
0
Recently after watching a Speed paint run, my girlfriend hooked it up with GIMP and I quickly took off with it. What I'm asking is the basic question: Do my pictures blur real and unreal?
Edit: I'm uploading more of my work now including regular pictures drawn then GIMPed.
Rei Cosplayer
The Miku card (Miku Cosplayer)
Hiroko Satou
Rei and Asuka Cosplay
DOA Ayane Cosplay
Stocking Cosplay
My ultimate goal is to get on the level of the Digital Artist Benjamin (works include: Orange.) I've only been using GIMP for less than a week and so far I really like taking cosplayers in the opposite direction. Cosplayers take anime into reality, I like to think I take the cosplayer into the anime.
Honestly is it working?

Thank you, do they look painted though (as if it were completely painted)? Each one has it's own balance rate between real and unreal...

First one really looks like a painting, i love it~ About the others, i think you can do better.
Miku's face doesn't look uniform, the image says Hatsune Mike btw xP Same with Rei's and Asuka's skin. Rei looks skinny, but maybe that's just the model.
Other things to notice: Hiroko's hair, i think you forgot to edit ayane's hand, and Stocking's too. They look too realistic, compared to the rest of the image.
I hope to see more, keep it up! ;3

Ah I see, I thank you for the critique. I can see my mistakes now (forgot to smudge the different colors).
Rei really was that skinny. As far as hands go, I do paint over those, but I do admit I don't give them the amount of detail I should. Alright I'm going into more detail now.

If you're going to run some filters/blur/brush over things, make sure you do the entire image so it looks uniform. Is all you're doing is minor editing to existing pictures?

I fell that using the filters makes things too easy and not too artistic.
Here is what I'm working on now.

Maybe if you add some of your own artwork or designs to the images it'd be better.

Also like I said, I've only been using gimp for about a week. I was stuck with MS Paint for the longest time and the ease of GIMP over paint made it possible for me to put out multiple pictures within the same day (I didn't share all of them.)
Should I share my pictures that I drew and then gimped over? I did more experimentation in them but in all honesty I like my "Cosplayers" more. I also did do a few editing things to those pictures besides painting over them such as giving more hair, making the hair look less like a wig, making faces seem less real by giving them one even tone and taking away things such as the bottom of the eye and wrinkles. The enhanced clash of colors between shades of darker and lighter I think help out the most
[ Edit ]
This first one is actually a friend of mine and I forced a Cosplay onto the picture as a prank.
Katawa Shoujo

On this last one I made her eyes red, gave her a bit more hair and made her hair jet black as well as coloring her coveralls black. The rest is all painting on the skin and then first bluing and then painting over the background.

To be honest I liked the ones you drew and then gimped over better than your edits. Also, with the "Katawa Shoujo" one it is really obvious (especially on the right side) where you were swirling the brush/tool around, which is why I said you need to do the entire image to make it uniform.

It's good to know I have a legit critic. Alright let me go back and do one with the entire pic instead. (who would thought it'd be from F! ? That's exactly why I posted here lol)
In the mean time more stuff
Just for fun
As I post this one I realize... I dont think I've actually finished any of my pictures . .;;;;;
This one is a character I modeled after a classmate (her hair changed color every week how could I not notice?
more funnies as I experimented with pasting on top of layers
this one was for my personal amusement, taking the guitar I want and giving it the paint job I want.

My thoughts?
Nope, in my opinion you're not getting all that close.
That is, bluntly, what I feel.
Not to say that your work is bad or anything.
I, myself, just don't feel you "took coplayer into anime"
I also think something like that is a rather difficult task and wonder if it's even possible.
Well, perhaps you'll show me the answer someday. lol.

Taking all of your criticism in I'll go through this step by step with you all.
Took one of my posted pictures before and reworked a lot of it. Tell me where I can improve

Yea, the first pic is the only one where it really seemed as though it could be unreal. The others I would say unreal if I only saw them for split seconds. Something about examining them for more than a few seconds and you can start to tell.

As other's pointed out I was doing things minimally (including the Rei Cosplay) but now I'm doing everything and wont put my name on it until it's done and asking for advice.
As Tegumi pointed out I did almost nothing in the background work so in a since it's almost like all I did was "put make up" on the women. Well witht he last one I'm being a lot more elaborate... what do you guys think?

Honestly speaking, you shouldn't let the audience know that you're painting over a photo, it will give them a negative impact. At least brush those obvious details.
Anyway, if you've just used GIMP for a week with this kind of art, You're doing good. You'll get familiar with this faster and draw better quality in the future.

Oh I know, I could have gotten away with "HOLY SHYT YOU PAINTED THIS?!" ( I post at more places than my favorite fap site ) but I'm too honest to lie to people. I'd rather let people know what it is I'm doing instead of lying to peoples faces and let them believe I'm THAT good.
I appreciate the advice though. Maybe I should conduct an experiment with what you said in mind. I won't say if I did it all or painted over.
