3pin molex work in PWM slot?

Sorry, this is probably a stupid question, but can you plug a 3pin fan (such as a case fan) into a pwm (or the 4pin connector for the cpu fan) connector? And will it adjust it's speed with the cpus temp? Or should I just invest in a pwm fan?
Can take pictures of what I'm on about if need be. Current cpu cooler has a 3pin plug on it, and I don't think it changes speed with the temp of the cpu, which will probably be bad if I end up playing any stressful games on it.
Tl;dr, can I plug the 3pin plug into the cpu fan slot? or should I just go get a fan with a pwm plug?
Cheers

I doubt it. And even if it did work, you wouldn't get smart fan control.Fair point there. Aight, guess it's back to square one in waiting for thursday to roll around so I can get some fans and a large amount of stickers

Huh... found out they do fit on there, and apparently do change speed... I'm assuming it's something to do with the three cables, instead of two.
pic of the 3pin plug I mean:

and pic of 4pin plug:

So, the connectors have the lock in the same place... we plugged it in, had a play in the bios, and the fan went from 500rpm to 900rpm after some fiddling. Not sure what the go is there (Whether it's just manual control, or whether it'll change with the cpu temps or not), but I'll probably still get a new fan for the cpu, since this one spins pretty slow, and doesn't flow as well as the case fans. Think it's sitting back on 500rpm again now, since we reset the bios back to default thinking that was why windows wasn't installing. w7 was just being mass homo.

Ah, so I was wrong on the first count. If I'd remembered about the nub I probably would have advised differently.
Looks like I'm right about smart fan control though:

Yep, new fan is definitely on the cards for today. have a little bit of dosh to play with. Hopefully the local stores have something pwm in 120mm.
I'm also pretty terrible at searching on google... I searched like 10 different things to do with this, and nada (Spose it helps if you have the actual names, not what you think it is, which turns out to be something completely different. Ala molex). Still, I'm sure that site'll come in handy. cheers for the link :D
