If you could pick any kind of dog, what would you pick?
Realistically speaking, I will probably get a pug.
But if I had no issues with money, time, etc. I would definately go for a Mastiff. ❤

Have you got any pets? What are the pro's and con's of your pet?
I have had mostly cats & rodents.
The cons of cats is that I had my dream cat, and no other cat could ever live up to him. :( He was the most affectionate, mellow and quirky cat I've ever come across.
The rodents I had were hamsters, degus and rats.
Degus are nice because they're rather unusual, they remind me of squirrels, and you can carry them around. The cons are that they are not yet fully domesticated if you ask me, and even friendly ones might bite you once or twice (and their bites go pretty deep).
Hamsters are excellent because they're adorable and easy to care for. Especially dwarf hamsters. I still have 1 dwarf hamster. She's lived way past life expectancy and doesn't look like she's going anywhere.
My favourites are my rats.
The pros are that they are very clever, affectionate, and haven't bitten me even once in 2 years. They love to come with me wherever I go and they're fairly easy to care for.
The cons are that they only live about 2-3 years, and people often think theyre scary. When in fact, my rats are the gentlest rodent pets I have ever owned.
So what about you?
What pets do you have, what pets would you like?

There is already a thread somewhere around here about what pets you own.
But as for what dog I would like...an Irish wolfhound is my dream dog.
Otherwise, there isn't any other pet that I feel a strong need to own since I already have my hedgehog.
I guess a wombat would be pretty sweet...

If it had to be a dog - then probably a poodle. Not only of those sissy hand-bag french poodles, but one of the big ones...
If it were any pet, probably a rat - intelligent, cute, low maintaince and awesome; all at the same time... though perhaps the most socially acceptable...

IKR?
One of my neighbours is blind, and she has a big poodle as guidedog and that thing is SUCH a badass!
He always looks sparkly clean, I wonder if she does that herself. o_o

I'd love to have one of the sighthounds--greyhound, saluki, whippet, borzoi, etc. I just like their looks and the fact that many of those breeds are "45mph couch potatoes" appeal to me as well.
In reality, I have a lab-pit-beagle who is mostly lazy but runs fast when she needs to. The good thing about having a mutt is that they can be smarter and have less health problems than purebred dogs. Plus she mostly looks like a lab puppy--and she'll stay that way forever, since she's fully grown--which is adorable. The bad thing about dogs is that they don't bury their own poo like cats do, but whatever.
I have two cats: one grey tabby and one blue bi-color ragdoll. The tabby is very vocal and smart--he knows several commands (although he'll refuse to obey if he's not in the mood), and he has very specific "words" he uses for me, teh bf, food, etc. The ragdoll is pretty, but he's such a tsundere. Cats are awesome because they don't need as much care as dogs, but are still affectionate anyway. The bad thing about my cats is that they shed, but with proper grooming (and a lion-cut for the ragdoll) it's not much of a problem.

I have a handful of favorites. Akita, Husky, mastiff, or a welsh corgi. In the end though when I get my first dog, I don't think I'd have the heart to seek out a pure breed, I'll probably just adopt a mutt at the pound.

Spoiler:
this is my kitty
found him in the middle of the road so he's a stray. Ive always liked strays a lot because if you take care of them they'll be the most loyal pets you can have. Plus as long as you feed them they wont run away XD

I got Miss Ada from a beagle rescue, to be specific. It's sad how perfectly good dogs get abandoned.

I'm curious to the reasons behind peoples choices for dog breeds. how much are they based on looks and how how much do people actualy know about the breed? not all breeds behave the same. for that matter, not all dogs of the same breed behave the same. i have 11 of one breed, and there are at least three different general personalities(each has it's own unique personality of course). some are avid hunters, some are more people oriented, and some are very indipendant. my point is, you can never do too much research. resaerch the breeder too. never get a dog from a pet store, odds are it came from a puppy mill.
if it turns out the dog you choose is not what you were expecting, contact the breeder, or breed rescue. don't just dump it at the pound.

That's good advice actually. Certain breeds have general personalities, or certain skills they excel at, but each dog does have their own personality. I spent at least a month combing the shelters and rescues for the perfect dog for me.
