Oh wow Anomalouse pretty much said anything I would recommend. I especially recommend Queens of the Stone age & White Stripes though.

They're not alternative rock bands!!
Mastodon, yeah, I think they're arguably alternative, but both are metal bands, and Mudvayne fits squarely in the pop realm of metal.
