Yeah, I've been following this story since the beginning. I'm pretty sure this is legit, although I wouldn't be surprised if Apple changed the casing before launching it this June. The hardware is probably going to stay the same.
Also, this whole thing smells like a controlled leak. You even have Giz trying to convince us it's not, and that makes it even more suspicious.
Like what?

Why is Apple making crusty-looking devices recently?
Like what?

Why is Apple making crusty-looking devices recently?I prefer crusty-looking over sterile-white any day of the week. That ability to remotely brick your phone scares the shit out of me. I can just imagine someone hacking into the network and remotely bricking every phone out there.

- New prototype found in a German beergarden
- employee who lost it is still employed
- free press for an Apple product
[/list:u]
Either Apple's extremely lax about product security or it's planted and good for business.

Can you disable that feature?Like God, Apple is always watching and able to intervene in appropriate situations. You can't disable God, same with Apple.

I saw this on Slashdot. Definitely not going to ever consider an iPhone. They are trying to keep porn off the iPhone... fuck that. I do not like this level of control apple is putting on its customers.

Minimalistic in this day and age = fail. Learn to keep up with technology people, those who learn will control those who fall behind in their world of "simplicity".

I gotta say, I dig the boxy shape of this one, and what kind of dipshit leaves an unreleased product from a company like Apple in a bar? That's like, top secret information you're just dropping in plain sight of the public.
Aw, it was one of the program developers doing a field test and he was a little drunk on his birthday. That's legit.

Wow another anti-iPhone story from slashdot. The iPhone will not support Adobe.

I guess as long as the ignorant masses don't understand whats going on and they keep buying it - it's all good for apple. I hope people jump off of the iPhone bandwagon and move to other smartphones.

the most arrogant, paranoid, and self-absorbed company leaves their top-secret prototype in a bar? oh, the irony.

But apparently, Minimal (and Modern Euro) is the in thing from architecture, to furniture and even somewhat to clothing. So you can't do anything about it, also, Minimalism is just a term of style not parts and etc. Go wiki Minimalism before you start babbling about it.

The thing to do would be look the term up in a thesaurus. Wikipedia fails on a level beyond words.
"Minimalism" is a term that can be applied to anything including hardware and components of a device, so yes I do have a right to babble about apple and their minimalism in their programing, software, and designs.
For example here is a very "minimalistic" slogan.

That's not really news, you know. :|
As for the iPhone, I don't have any particular feelings for or against it. Flash and front-facing camera are nice ideas though.

I like Apple because they come out with great ideas. The problem is that they are lacking in the creativity they used to allow users and other companies to take advantage of. They are still showing us how to make things easy to use though. That said, I sympathize with the early Mac following and how they are being invaded by young punks who are attracted by "Oooh shiny!" They used to be like the hippy movement of the '60s but now they are just a corporate giant.

The hippy movement became bastardized and its ideals were exploited, exactly the same has happened to Apple.

Every time I take out my iPad at school, I get surrounded by people, but instead of being impressed by the fact it can stream 720p MKVs from my computer back at home with zero lag, they rave on about its curved edge, the thinness, and how shiny it is.
Sure, the iPad looks good and all, and so are Macs, but so many people are liking them for the aesthetics rather than the user experience, and it's because of people like that that we are constantly attacked online for being "unknowledgable".
