This is rather old news by now, but Armored Core 5 has been announced beginning this year.
No definite release date has been given, tough it is suspected to come out late-2010 in Japan on Xbox 360 and PS3.
What is known so far about it (taken from Armored Core Online):

In short, it seems that much of the whole "high-speed" mech combat of AC4 and ACFA is being dropped in favor of a more "tactical" approach, with terrain and cover playing much greater role opposed to previous installments of the series, with exception of the very first PS1 games. because of that, the mech's are getting downsized from 10 feet to 5. This will also mean that levels will be much more detailed, and I hope the same will go for mechs/other machine graphics.
So, what do you think? I'm pretty intrigued by the concept, since I'd love to see a game that at least tries to present mechs as realistic battle machines, and is not of Battletech franchise. I'm a bit disturbed about the "camera control" thing. The one from AC3 still appears in my nightmares.

All camera control in armored core series are all same, manual controlled, aren't they?
except AC:formula front that using semi auto lock for up-down camera. and auto lock for AC4 and AC4A

                        I suppose I should've been more specific:
Armored Core 3 had a sort of manual camera control which was attached to separate pads, one for horizontal movements and one pad for vertical. It was a pure horror to operate in middle of firefight, or maybe my fingers aren't nimble enough.
In AC4 they had just one pad for all-round camera control, which was much more effective.
Ergo, I hope they'll keep that, rather than go back to the old one.

oh i get it. i beleive AC 5 has same contoll with AC4.
hmmm... but try to play PSP ver. that's more horror because PSP doesn't have L2-R2 button. and it's more suck in Last Raven when facing sinaida as last boss and Archangel Pulverizer

                        I'm glad I didn't have to, then.
Sometimes I wonder, how many hands do you need to play earlier Armored Cores without breaking your fingers.
But that increased the happiness out of A or S ranks.
In other news, the more tactical approach to gameplay gets me hoping for longer and more diverse missions. No more 4 minute shooting galleries please.

But I LOVED the emphasis on speed that 4 and FA have...
I thought it made it a lot more difficult, and well, fun. Tossing heat out was a great move too, big pain in the ass that just moving by boosting would eventually screw you.
Hopefully they keep at least some of the speed elements in 5, as I am looking for something a bit more...'in depth' than upgrade your AC (or find that magical set up that beats almost everything) And go terrorize anyone stupid enough to be against you. And they better keep it so that you can fire back weapons on the move. So we don't have to face another Genobee that can do it while we can't.
We'll see I guess. For now I just hope Ubisoft or someone will grab it to distribute it here in the States.

Slow Core was pretty good for its time, but they're going to have to innovate pretty harshly from the ancient formula. If they introduce a reasonable cover system, we may actually see real aiming instead of recticles. God, wouldn't that be cool? Hell, location based damage. Now that'd be the shit. In slowing down the game, I think they can really address the concerns that have followed them since day one.
I'm willing to stay positive on this. While they might slow down the mechs themselves, they may make the targeting more precise. Sticking a guy in your box has served for a while, but I think it's on its way out, or rather, sticking a guy in the box has more than one option beyond draining someone's health.
I like the fact that these guys are willing to try anything. 4/4A were pretty innovative from the classic formula and they'll be missed somewhat. (I still think speedcore is better suited for ZOE 3 whenever it decides to show its face)
