I think this is a good thing and a bad thing. Good thing because we can get their phones possibly and bad because of the prices going up. Any thoughts?

T-Mobile was a wretched cellphone company. Their customer service was shit. I doubt AT&T buying it out will do much good.

Until AT&T stops monopolizing their cellphone market, have better customer service and signal, well...

Pretty much, but the exact same thing goes for Verizon too. Everyone wants to monopolize to the furthest extent they can get away with.
People seem to forget the novel concept that more competition means lower prices. No, a lot of people seem to approve of consolidating to fewer and few cell phone providers as if it matters really if we are all using the same carriers. Most people have more than enough minutes to the point of the benefit of being on the same carrier as a another person is not nearly as significant as it is made out to be.
But no, go ahead. Support the monopolization of the cell phone market. Just like how we ignore Comcast buying out smaller cable providers in an attempt to make their lead over the U.S. cable market even larger. Let's not forget about Coca-Cola and Pepsi as those two single-handily managed to drive Royal Cola to the ground. Sigh...

I am in 100% agreement with your statement, because all the company's care about is what their bottom line is. not about their customers

I hope that with this we can get iPhones. What is it about Apple products that makes even otherwise level headed and rational people rush off in a hurry, even willing to sell their soul for the next gizmo?
They have very nice functional designs & ergonomics, but I don't understand all the hype. It's still just a damn phone... or a PDA with a big touchscreen... or an OS that's for once based on a tried and tested architecture (UNIX) married to a good GUI & UI scheme (OSX).
They're nice, but neither revolutionary or *all around* better then the competition in the same price bracket. Once again Apple products have really good ergonomics... but have problems of their own just like everything else.
Apparently Mac's are a religion...
...however some of us would rather work then worship:

I'm mostly concerned about AT&T monopolizing the market and stifling possible innovation. I will also be highly annoyed if the price increases as I am currently on T-Mobile. However I have a Nexus One, so it's unlocked and I can throw it on any provider I choose.
These guys seem to have GREAT plans: http://www.virginmobileusa.com/cell-phone-plans/beyond-talk-plans.jsp Though coverage is the same as Sprint's apparently.

At the very least, I would think that would be the case until you go to upgrade or change your current plan.
I am like that with AT&T. The plan I am on is over seven-years old, but they cannot increase the cost of my plan because I haven't changed it. For example, the plan that I am paying for gives me 750 minutes a month, no text plan. However, when I went to change my plan this last Christmas I tried to knock it down to 400 minutes (still with no text plan) and it was going to cost me more than the plan I was currently on. I was like, "Uh... I think I'll pass then." The clerk just kind of smiled and I left.
