Being too nosey?

So my neighbor had been financially struggling for a while, I got to know him pretty well because I invited him down for dinner a week before Christmas. I had found out before that his mother had died and he lost his job - so I thought he could use some friends around that time.
He's a really nice guy, a little slow on the intelligence side, and doesn't have a whole lot of common sense - but a very nice guy.
He has 2 cats and just recently he's been gone for about a week. I had known he was moving soon, but he hadn't made any sign of moving (no boxes or moving out) and he just seemed to vanish.
I wanted to know if I was being too nosey by wondering if he took his cats with him. He's the kind of guy that would say he needed gas money, because he had no gas and drive his car anyway and would get it stuck and call someone to go get him.
I'm just wondering if he might have figured he'd come back but never got the chance to.
Do you think I should contact the apartment complex office and mention it? Or do you think I should just leave it alone and figure he took the cats with him? :|

I would definitely check on the cats. But that's just me because I know I'd be worrying everyday.
I doubt the guy will yell at you later for being nosy. He seems nice and understanding. You're honestly just concerned, and I think it's fair to call and make sure everything is okay.

I would say leave it as it is. I'm sure he took the cats with him. Then again, that's probably just my personal annoyance talking. I hate it when people take it upon themselves to check up on me or what I'm involved in.

Probably should contact the apartment complex to see what is up just to make sure. If he was a nice guy like you said he may not be concerned on you checking if something happened. That and the apartment complex may have information if he moved out or something of the matter.

I'd say try and confirm if he moved or not first. If you can't, just check on the cats. You said he's a nice guy, I'm sure he'd appreciate the thought.

So you only befriended him to get a chance on his cats? A cat is fine too but I guess looking around for them would be the first course of action. This strangely reminds me of that situation where your neighbor is actually running away from loan-sharks.

THINK OF THE KITTIES, ZIGGEH. I don't like sad stories of animals dying because of negligence. What Alex~kun said, basically.

There isnt any way to find out? Well cats can fend for themselves unless of course he locked them inside of the apartment...

Check on the cats yo...
Its not about being nosey its about caring...
...
It'd be awesome to have neighbors like Ziggy and FPoD...
All I have is my crazy lesbian neighbors...
But they're cool...
...
Oh yeah anyway if you havent seen him you should definitely tell the people in the apartments about it, and check on the animals...
Its just the... neighborly thing to do...

Lol am I the only one who is more concerned for the guy?
Anyway, I don't think you're too nosey Ziggy. Personally though, I wouldn't want anyone keeping track of what I do, where my animals are and where I go.

You aren't nosey for having a heart. Check up on the cats and try to get in touch with the dude to see if he wants the cats. If not keep them (with his permission of course) because cats are so adorable =]

You're not the only one.
I would, however, think that checking on the guy directly is a step into the creepier side of nosey....ness.
Perhaps "pass" him in the hall, and see what's going on....through small talk.
More direct: "I heard some shit about..."

You'd definately want to check things out, as a good neighbour would. Besides, there are many things that could've transpired, and perhaps he didn't leave by his own choice. You should definately check on the cats, and perhaps try to see if he's ok.
There have been cases of kind neighbours who were worried, and checked up on them, only to find bodies. Not saying that's the case for you, but... still better safe than sorry.
Consult with FPoD first though. Don't make him worry ya?

Yeah I dont think it would be too much trouble if you just go over and check, or ask his other neigbours if they have seen the cats around. do you know anyone else who might have his contact details? If you can get in touch with him it would be best, but if not it doesnt hurt call people to just check it out. He seems nice and understanding, so Im sure he'll be happy that you are concerned for him and his pets.^_^

if it's been more than a week, and he is in the next apartment, you probably would have smelled him by now. speaking from personal expieriance.
