Bill S.978 WHOA!

Can they actually do something like that? The U.S. Government is trying to block gameplay videos. (not really just gameplay videos, but music, movies, etc.)I'm a hacker, I've (soft)modded every console I've ever owned, and I haven't really thought about gameplay videos, until now. This could block walkthroughs, gameplay videos, and other stuff. What do you think? Should they be able to do this?

Some of those playthroughs need to be banned.
In all seriousness. They really have a hardon for the internet these days. Whatever can net them a foothold they'll jump on it.

Just to clarify alittle Bill S.978 makes it a felony to stream copyrighted content such as background music, gaming videos, videos with certain brands, etc. over 10 times thus giving it the nickname of the "Ten strikes" bill. If put into place after receiving 10 strikes for streaming infringing content( from using bgm as I previously said to simple kids lip syncing popular songs and karaoke) you can face five-ten years in prison. So in other words, complete and utter BULLSHIT.
the correct thread has been inactive and dead for 1 month so wouldn't the creation and posting in this thread be the proper plan of action?

Actually, the intent was to provide some equality under the current copyright laws. Currently it is a felony to download copyrighted materials, but a misdemeanor to stream those same materials - even if you profit financially from it. As I said, that was the intent - as too how it actually plays out .. well that could well be another matter.
Several years ago Ohio decided to pass a law banning machine guns, why they thought they needed one remains unclear, especially since there has been a federal law banning private ownership of machine guns since the thirties. But they did, and since (God forbid) they didn't want to actually involve any one who actually knows something about firearms they passed a bill that was worded so poorly that once it passed and was tested in court - they discovered they actually passed a bill banning shotguns by mistake.

Bah, I'm not worried.
I'm a caster on Justin.TV and this bill isn't going to stop me from continuing to cast video game playthroughs. The bill might manage to act as a catalyst for scare tactics to get places like JTV and UStream to shut down, but people seem to not understand that there is no precedent for going after individual streamers.
While Net Neutrality is still in affect (God knows how long it will take for them to ever manage to topple it) there is no effective way to go after individual casters. I will continue to stream until that changes. They can shut down the mediums I use to stream, but they can't do anything to me, yet.

@Tsurayu I hope it's just scare tactics... This is pretty much telling me that I have to watch TV to find out about a videogame *Shivers*

As if this bill will ever get passed. The internet(to some)is probably the closest thing we have to freedom. Laws, regulations and society prevents us from doing things in the real world. So we turn to the internet. Take away our internet rights and I guarantee anyone, there will be problems. Remember when AT&T blocked 4Chan? GG.
