College Finals- What you have and Tips
0
With Winter Break happening we are getting into the old town College finals. Some people have already taken them or some are about to take them. What are you doing for them and how do you pre-pair or even what classes you are taking for them?
I've finished up all my finals but one, Personal Finance class that my father forced me to take this time around.
Normally I stay up the night before and study all night, a cram all night. I've tired to pace myself out but I do worst when I do that so I still do my late nights. I most likely will go to bed at around 3am then wake up for work at 6am and look at my notes during lunch till my final tomorrow night.

Burn the midnight oil.
Cramming is all college life is about, it's more fun that way.
It wouldn't be fun if you are already finished reviewing while your colleagues are dying the night before the exam.
Join the fun bro.

Just study. Flashcards and tactile methods work best for me...
For me, going over it aloud with either myself or a friend forces me to remember the information correctly; especially when talking it over with a peer, problems in your notes/ideas can be seen (and then fixed) quickly!
If you're on your own, bother a buddy on IM about it and explain what your subject's important points are: putting into "layman's terms" helps you remember it better, generally!
This goes for papers too: don't edit/proof-read on a computer, always print it out and ideally, have a friend who hasn't read it at all go over it to see how it sounds.
Again, if you have no one around, send it to a net pal to look over; even if they aren't grammar experts, they can still catch awkward wording or misspellings.

I don't have finals till mid-January, but I know them full well. I usually just cram everything the night before, if I only have one final the next day. There was one time that they gave me 3 finals on the same day, from 9:00AM till like 5:00PM without any lunch break or anything. That was rather amusing.
To everyone that its on college finals, or near them, good luck and wish you the best. Work the hardest you have done on the semester, after that some free time(or vacation, if you are a full-time student) will come as college will be over.

My first final will be next Monday at 5pm in the afternoon.
I've got plenty of time to cram, but I already understand a whole mess of it, so I'm not to worried.
I'm much more worried about my Art Final, as well as my Physics final. Music and American studies I already have down, I just need to review.
I usually just look over old notes, look at the textbook while listening to music (this semester I have been listening to the music assigned by my music class).

Well I guess this is a pro of not studying at all. No exams!
They don't ouweight all the cons though.

My fucking Math final is on Thursday. Archeology on Friday.
Math is fucking easy, but trying to go through all those fucking Archeology lectures again is brutal.

The Iconoclast
I study 2 weeks in advance, 1 hour every night. By the time the exam is a few days away I am ready to kick ass. Cramming is just stupid, people who do it should take school more seriously.

I'm about to graduate next week, allow me to give you some advice, if you will.
When I was a freshmen I used to cram and ended up doing horrendous in school.
Once I learned that this was not the way to go, I began spacing out study sessions. I get private rooms at the library , ALONE, do a review a week before, study every day for about 2 hours. 2-3 days before the exam, I schedule an appointment with my professor to answer any needed questions (in this case, finance for my final tomorrow), and then spend the next few days studying. On the final day, I print out multiple copies of the review and answer the questions without the use of notes. Do this every day a week before the exam, and you'll be acing them. I got anything between a 95-100 on every exam in the last year by doing this.
Also, quiet room with soft jazz such as "Fragrance of Dark Coffee" with rainy mood, is amazing. Don't overdue it, and if needed, adderoll doesn't hurt.

Adderall DOES hurt, esp. when you don't need it. I cannot stand when people think they can just 'pop' prescription drugs.
Some douche was bragging about having done so while sitting next to me in the library the other day. Wanted to punch him in the face; clearly the drugs were not adding to his ability to concentrate (nor his intellect for that matter, as he so claimed).
Seriously, there's a reason you have to have a medical condition to get them.
I have ADD, and even though I've used medications (including at some points Adderall) all my life, I can tell you that starting on them is not easy even for one who needs them. I've had to switch prescriptions before and sometimes, if a pill doesn't work well with you, it will seriously fuck you up.
If you're already on other drugs, even worse.
Sorry, but I just cannot accept people using meds as "study aids". If you really need a boost, buy No Doze or just drink some coffee/hot chocolate.

Hey everybody, here is something that is actually useful in doing your papers. It is a website that turns text into speech. You don't have to use this one in particular, but it is a good idea read over what you wrote and listen to how your text sounds. I've read many papers that were void of punctuation or grammatical errors, but I could tell that the author did not take much time proofreading because there would be errors in their syntax. Often, you'll miss mistakes in your paper because the problem won't be a spelling or punctuation issue, but instead a problem with your semantics. Something won't sound right, a sentence will have conflicting pronouns, or you'll use redundancies.
Below are three tips and examples of mistakes that College students still make when writing papers or Essays. Hope they help you get a better grade during this "finals week".
Conflicting pronouns:
Example, saying "Jane and Sara went to the mall since she promised to show her some shoes she liked"
It looks fine, but if you read it aloud you'll notice that something is wrong. Who's made the promise, Jane or Sara? Who was showing the shoes to whom? and who did they think would like the shoes? Did Sara promise to show Jane some shoes because she though Jane would like them, or because Sara liked them? Reading this aloud helps you catch it in your paper.
Redundancies when dealing with absolutes are another concern. Never write "more true (Ex. This evidence makes my statement more true.) That is redundant. Something is either true or it isn't. Also, never say "very/especially/even more unique" Something cannot be more unique. Either it is or it isn't unique. There are not varying degrees of uniqueness. To say something is "extraordinarily unique" is redundant and any teacher with a grasp of proper English will not be pleased.
Last, Outliners. There is a technical term for these words but it escapes me at the moment. Basically, it is any word which is unnecessary to say what it is you are trying to state.
This line might look okay...
My name is Tegumi and this is how I sound like.
... but if you read it aloud, you'll realize that something is wrong with it - namely the word "like" at the end. You might write,
"Even now though, there are holes in our justice system that politicians ignore still."
You do not need the word "though" and you do not need the word "still" at the end since these words are not needed to get your point across.
"Even now, there are holes in our justice system that politicians ignore."
Read your papers aloud to yourself. If you are too lazy or feel awkward doing that, then use a text-to-speech website or program.

Fuck that. I do better when I cram.
Like one time where I forgot about my test, only to cram about 6 hours before my exam. Ended up passing with 89%.
