Comparing Linux distros
0
I recently partitioned my hard drive to install a few of the popular Linux distroes , I have Ubuntu (12.10) Linux Mint and Kubuntu(also 12.10), the 3 may be similar but i'm just asking which is far more reliable and easy to use of the 3 ? I first thought of using Mint since the interface reminded me of Windows but my friends recommended me to use KUbuntu for whatever reason and on my first Trial I found it somewhat "cleaner" and "slightly superior" or should I just stick to the Parent Ubuntu ?

Stick to whichever you feel most comfortable with. I personally never really used Linux, but I've tried out Ubuntu and Mint for a few hours at most and I like it. But it really depends of the size of the chair, though :3

install ALL THE DE's
But no really, aside from learning apt or yum or whatever package manager you'll be using a lot of the experience comes from your own customizations with desktop environments, window managers, and shell scripts. Whatever distro you start out with doesn't make too much difference

There's nothing wrong with Ubuntu, it's still the most popular Linux distro. You can pretty much do everything in the GUI. A lot of people hate the new DE (desktop environment) in Ubuntu, Unity, but it's your preference.
Kubuntu is the same but with KDE, and again, it's really just your preference. Personally, I don't like KDE, but I know a lot of people who do.
Linux Mint is my favorite distro of the three. It uses forks of Ubuntu's old DE, Gnome 2. The Mint devs think Gnome 3 still has quite a ways to go (as do I), so they use two forks of Gnome 2: Cinnamon and MATE. I can't really tell you what the difference in those are, though. A lot of the applications in Mint are designed specifically for Mint, and they all work really well. The update manager, MintUpdate, is very nice.
Do what Rovencrone said, try all the DEs! Install all three in virtual machines if you need to!

MATE: Based on Gnome 2, nothing change.
In my first days using linux, I tested all the DEs as I can, rigth now I'm using XFCE

I preferred Mint over Ubuntu when I was first getting into Linux because it includes a bunch of proprietary software right off the bat for playing MP3 files etc. As far as desktop environments go KDE seemed a bit resource heavy and bloated, disliked it. Didn't much care for gnome either, with some extra additions it can look amazing, but again it's somewhat resource heavy and bloated.
Arch-linux is the distro I'm rolling with and XFCE is my current DE. Lately I've been using Enlightenment and I'm really enjoying it.

When I was first starting to get into Linux I used Ubuntu.
But a lot of people these days prefer mint.
Read this article and decide for yourself.

If you want to learn about how linux works and how to fix it, try the following the beginner guide for archlinux and install any window manager you want, Cinnamon, Xfce, Gnome 3, KDE, i3, xmonad, etc.
If you want easy and works out of the box, then linux mint or fedora.

Good choice. This distro is perfect for beginner and intermediate level users because of some similarities with a certain proprietary OS. What are you using Cinnamon or Mate?
