Converting movie files

Suggest me a freeware (or any software that doesn't expire) that can convert mkv, mp4 (etc) movie files into avi (DIVX).
I'm not a computer person so I don't know this DIVX thing that goes with an avi file. Same goes with the XVID thingie.

Any Video Converter works fine for me, but it's not freeware and it doesn't expire if you don't update after you get it by not buying it :P

I just wanted a quick file conversion.

Free Studio for everything including video. I haven't found anything else that comes close to it's capabilities. It supports Image, Audio and Video conversion, with presets for most mobile devices as well.

While it has a lot of functions, I didn't found the right file conversion I'm looking for.
I need something that converts mp4, mkv (and other formats) to AVI (divx).
[EDIT]
I've found something just lite and better.
It's called Pazera Free MP4 to AVI Converter.

I hate these so called "click-to-convert" programs as these conceal almost everything from the end user and therefore you'll likely end up with a shitty or BIG file in the end.
In the past I used to recommend VirtualDub and VirtualDubMod, however the programs have become outdated with the widespread adoption of mkv.
Avidemux by comparison is a really similar program, but it has an active development and supports most modern formats.
Frankly, if you want a good video encode you'll have to educate yourself on the basics and it's not that hard.
MP4/AVI/MKV are *NOT* video formats! They are containers!
H264, Divx/Xvid, Theora, Indeo, etc. are video formats that you embed in a container! Beside these you also have an audio format like FLAC, AAC, AC3, ogg, DTS, etc. that you also embed in the same container.
Some formats are both a container and a video encoding method, like Windows Media Video (WMV) or MPEG-1 & 2.

Edit: Just tested it again, you can convert a lot of things (haven't tryed movies but I have tryed music) you can do 5 at 1 time, then you just need to refresh for a new set of 5, so far its free. (From what I can tell and safe) I'm sure it can convert moives too.

SUPER seems to do everything for free with a good feature set, but someone may dispute that. It's all I've ever needed but I haven't used it for MKVs (or anything else) in a while. Not exactly a 'lite' piece of software but that isn't the best route imo.
