Dating Sims and Synthetic Relationships: Game Exchange

Now, I was wondering where to make this topic but after some thought. I decided to go with the Serious Discussion board after all, since it IS a very serious matter that I think EVERYONE here at FAKKU should be aware of and know about.
This is the latest episode by the internet personality, Gaijingoomba. He makes very insightful videos about the Japanese culture in gaming, and has very good opinions towards his topics.
If you liked this video, you should probably start following him so you get to have a better insight on some things about Japan, as well as gaming.
Now that you've watched the video. Discuss.

Talking. I refuse to watch videos of people talking. I cannot stand them.
Please make this less of an advertisement thread. At least make it so that you have a discussion going without having everything in the video said for you. Share your own opinions on this.

Very interesting topic indeed I was not aware it had gotten to this point. However being a typical loner who delves and indulges into anime and hentai I can understand the sentiment though I personally wouldn't go that far as I rarely play dating sims in general. However if you can get the AI to near perfection and allow me to link directly into that world I will indeed forsake reality but only if it is an almost matrix for what feels like an entirely new reality.

Now that we've seen the male side of this, have they done a follow up to tell us how the female population is dealing with this issue. I'm really interested in how this pans out. Could Japan virtualize themselves out of existance?

I'm surprised this topic hasn't been mentioned more often. Japan has had this issue for a while now, and it only continues to get worse as time goes by, because neither side of the gender pool really wants to do anything about this, either because of discomfort, personal gain, or inability to adapt and come to terms with the other gender. This goes for both men and women.
What's worse, we see this happening not only in America, but other land masses as well. Though, admittedly, not to the same degree. However, if we continue on the path we are, we may very well land ourselves in the same place Japan is. I think the only reason our culture (or rather, the American culture), hasn't fallen into the same predicament as Japan has, is because we have been able to deal with the issue to some degree. Not to mention, that our culture takes a far more masculine (or rather direct) approach to issues, both sexual or otherwise. If, in my opinion, barely. That, and the thought that we in other countries are a bit more sexually liberal. Rather, we like sex, and we're not entirely picky about our partners, or about doing the deed in general, which can be a whole other problem all together, but that's a topic for another time.
Really, the long and short of it is, is we have both genders unable to deal or adapt to the changes being made both socially, and sexually, and we're starting to see the effects this has on at least one culture. Who knows how much longer it'll be before the effects start to set in for the rest of us.

if i was a little younger i would've been part of that 36 percent who have no interest in sex i like kids but i just despise the idea of having one and personally i find real girls annoying and too demanding so i gave up on the idea of getting married and ending the family in my generation and besides virtual girls will never hate you.

I tried a few dating sims, but Love Plus takes the cake with the fact that getting a girlfriend is just the beginning. You play to keep your gf happy. My wife knows about it and likes the concept (we play Harvest Moon games where you marry a partner and even have kids)

Here's my thing about this issue: Even when the people commenting on this issue acknowledge that it doesn't occur in a vacuum, they act like it does. That is to say, even when the ideas that women are getting more picky and men are getting less desirable to women is mentioned, they are never explored. Rather, we hear the same spiel about artificial relationships again, without a full exploration of why they have become more popular.
We understand that men are becoming more "herbivorous," but what societal factors contribute to that? We understand that women are becoming more picky with men, but what in society is causing that? It's really easy to say "More and more men are escaping into dating sims and synthetic relationships and that's bad for society," but the fact that these people see the need to escape into virtual worlds is a symptom of larger societal issues, and so far, we've only seen it treated as a problem to be solved on its own, rather than a problem that has a root in deeper social problems.
To put it simply, I think the issue of dating sims and synthetic relationships is a much more superficial issue than people make it out to be, and I think the focus on it is putting proverbial blinders on us and preventing us from examining the big picture.
The fact that the majority of these analyses of this phenomenon are still from a "this stuff is weird" standpoint doesn't help, either.
