Dating Troubles?

I have this girl that that I'm interested but I have little to no experience at asking out some one. well that's not true, I have lots of experience but most of those attempts resulted in failures. So obviously I not doing ad/or saying the right thing. So now that I'm part of this community, I'd like to get your advise on this.
I've already gone out with this girl once but it wasn't a date. I would like to ask her out on a official date for the 14th, Valentines Day.
Any and all semi-intelligent (topic related) thoughts are welcome.
And saying give her the D isn't a intelligent answer, in case you were wondering.
(For those who saw this in a previous section thank you for telling me where to should go.)

I may be able to pinpoint what exactly, if anything, you did wrong.

1. Valentine's Day is a great day to tell someone you like them. But it puts a lot of pressure on someone if you ask them out that day, because it implies a lot of hugely romantic feelings and intentions that the first date may be a little too light for. Dinner in a restaurant or even a nice movie date on Valentine's day is pretty big. Girls subconsciously expect big things to be said, and if this person isn't already into you, or established as some sort of casual girlfriend, it's going to be a bit much.
2. I'd suggest letting her know you like her in a small valentine [Preferrably handwritten, Do -not- buy an overly poetic or romantic Card, you want something light and flirtatious] with maybe a single piece of high-quality chocolate, and a flower.**A bouquet is a no-go, it's another thing that would be too over-the-top of a gesture for something that hasn't even begun yet. You can write on the card 'would you go on a date with me?' and leave the date to be determined, so it's not as if you're making a huge proclamation.

This is LRR, all responses are serious. Only very rarely will someone post something stupid, and it is usually met with great disdain.

Surprise her. Well, not something public, but any surprise. You could wow her with some chocolates and flowers or you could leave the gifts for the date and surprise her by being forward about your intentions. Oh, and give her something to look forward to. A little mystery goes a long way.
I think you should definitely ask her before Valentine's day though. Just to be sure.

Since Valentines is on a Thursday I think that if you plan the date for Thursday you ask her beforehand, possibly keep an idea of what you might want to do that day. Movies? Dinner(reservations probably not needed on Thurs depending on the time)? So on and so on since I dunno what is around where you are.
I agree that it shouldn't be overtly public or a big showing. That is a bit embarrassing for both parties. Best you can do is ask, it is better than not saying anything I think. Since it is valentines, chocolates may be in order. Find out what she likes. If you can't find it out ferrero rocher or see's choco I heard is fairly popular/tasty. And unless you know how to cook chocolate things well it is probably your best bet.

I have been where you are. I was confessing but to no avail so I just gave up. Then I casually told a girl I really liked her (I wasn't trying to confess) and it led to her saying "I like like you". I was happy xD
I would suggest not to try so hard. You'll only hurt yourself. As long as you are able to convey your feelings, then it doesn't matter where or when.

Thanks for your advise. I really appreciate it.
I got her a red tulip(her favorite flower), Made chocolates(turned out great), then asked her on a date to dinner and a movie. She ejected me.
So it wouldn't get awkward, I said okay no problem maybe next time. Then we stated talking, I brought up anime, then she said loves them. So I said we could go to my house, watch anime and order out, she agreed. We ordered Chinese then watched Ore no Imouto ga Konnani Kawaii Wake ga Nai and Seitokai Yakuindomo. Then I drove her home, she kissed me then said happy Valentines Day.
I think I found the one.
