Death Note american remake script leak?
0
I'm probably a bit late on this one, but has anyone heard of this? I don't know if it's fake, and for the love of all that is good, I hope it's a fake.
Leaked Script?
What do you think of it? Personally I think that if this is the actual script, I won't even bother giving the movie a chance. Fair enough that they want to westernise it but this script is rubbish, they've taken everything good about Death Note and gotten rid of it.
It's one thing to cast Effron as Light, but this is just starting to piss me off, and I'm willing to bet it will piss off a lot of other Death Note fans.

About supposed Screenplay:
(Oh and im going to refer to the characters by their ACTUAL names to ease confusion)
- Light isnt motivated by self-righteousness but by revenge, turning him into a totally different character type.
- Possibly no Shinigami (definately no Ryuk), so I wonder where the supernatural element will come from, even though the shinigami is prevalent in many key secenes.
Although all this may be solved by changing the ending as the say, but the new ending sounds too clean, like you can do all this stuff and get away with it without any ill effects, physically or mentally.
Truth be told, id rather wait it out until I can see an actual copy of this script, then I could do a synopsis like with the transformers 3 screenplay :)
Still, the only thing I wonder...Zac Effron...can he play light without breaking out into some kind of song? And will the movie be PG13?
EDIT: Ok this is ALL I've been able to ascertain so far...
The project has no Director yet and definitely doesn't look like its scheduled for release, or ever pre-production anytime soon. The screenwriters attached to the picture, Vlas and Charles Parlapanides, are pretty much no names with no real credentials to speak of (except for a movie called 'Everything for a Reason' in 2000 which I can find no facts on), so it's hard to tell just how acquainted with the sauce material they may be or just how well they can interoperate it. It will be produced by Roy Lee (has produced several j-horror remake movies), Doug Davison (produced several j-horror remake movies, mostly flops), Dan Lin (Chinese badminton champion, no film credentials), and Brian Witten (produced 'Happy Campers' in 2001) so its producers line up is also a little shaky. Zac Efron has made hints that he may be involved in the production, but no official word yet. So from what we have here so far we can ascertain that its planning to use the draw power of the existing fan base to draw in crowds (much like the recent horror remake surge with no names making the movies with tiny budgets for HUGE returns, although with Warner Bros involved hopefully that won't be the case) and just milk it as much as they can for a big opening weekend box office and then a complete drop off the radar.
Release Date: Most likely Early 2013, catching the end of the broody 'Twilight' Franchise, ensnaring the fans looking for another story with a pretty boy in it (I know you don't like it but hey, thems hollywood).
Target Audience: Existing Fan Base, Teeny Boppers.
Possible Rating: I'll be generous and say R (American) since it is being produced by some people who have put out some more risqué stuff horror wise. Although, my gut says it'll be PG-13.
ALSO: "In 2009, Efron was revealed to be connected to the live action rendition of the Japanese anime Full Metal Panic, simply entitled Panic". ZAC EFFRON WILL EVENTUALLY BECOME A PRODUCER OF ANIME-BASED LIVE ACTION ADAPTATIONS. IM CALLING IT RIGHT NOW!
So...I guess this movie will just be called 'Note'?...

it be better if it was just an adaptation
like light already had the death note and been killing for awhile and L could be more or less the main character. the whole story could be about the chase

I literally felt like crying the first time I heard Efron was supposed to be acting as Light. He's had no serious roles so far, and they want him to act as LIGHT?!? They need someone who is either: 1. a VERY good and experienced actor who can adapt to different roles (like Johnny Depp) or 2. a psychopath who can act relatively normal at points.

Spoiler:
That being said, the major thing they would have to do in that case is modify it to suit American lifestyle. The revenge plot means maybe Light might not be AS super intelligent as well...

[font=Verdana][color=green]Great...if Zac Efron becomes Light Yagami, it will mean Death Note will become a musical. "Musical Notebook of Death" anyone?

Okay so efron is only know for what's his face in hsm, but I'm being optimistic that if they do cast his it really might not be that bad, or It could suck so bad it could get a watermelon through a drinking straw

No, just no... *shakes head* This is going to be a bigger disappointment compared to the Japanese live action movie where...

I'm not seeing this.
Not because it's a remake, but because I don't want to watch another Death Note movie.
