Dell Latitude E6400 engine swap? (to run World of Tanks)
0
I've already done some googling and cannot find any specific information, likely because the people discussing upgrading laptop video cards have much more knowledge than I.
I am now using a secondhand Dell E6400, partially because it was cheap and partially because it came with a complete MS Office Pro suite pre-installed. a week ago a fellow furry turned me on to World Of Tanks and I started playing on my old Dell Studio which ran it at a playable level. Then it overheated, shut itself off, and for some reason it would only run the game at half the speed it did before. Thus I jumped to this one. And the game runs painfully slow, as in 5-19 fps with every graphics setting at minimum.
I've been doing some googling and think that I might be able to swap motherboards in this machine to get enough video power to run WoT at a low setting (don't need stellar graphics while I grind my way to the T95 and Maus :3 ) My laptop currently has the 4-series express family chipset. I understand this mnachine was also available with a nvidia 160.
My question is, if I purchase a replacement motherboard with the Nvidia, will everything else plug in? Will any daughterboards on my preexisting motherboard swap onto the Nvidia motherboard?
Thanks for the time and for tolerating my noobish question. :)

Somehow [as of 1/15/2014] your avi really matches the response. :D
Better or easier? I'm pretty sure a different machine is out of the question for the near term. If I can buy a motherboard off eBay and remove-'n-replace it would make things easier for me. I've had my old Studio apart more than once and never did any harm to it in the process.

If you do find another board that will fit, chances are it's not going to be much of an upgrade. You could always do some chassis modification but you'll need a bit of technical expertise to figure out how you're going to cool it properly afterwards.

Related to my original goal but on a different machine, did not want to start a new topic.
I tried installing World of Tanks on a different machine in the house, one that is not mine but isn't really used very much. It's a Gateway NV79 running Win7. I tried installing it three times and each time, trying to launch it results in this [paraphrased]:
"Application failed, missing d3dx9_43.dll Reinstall application to fix problem"
This machine has had issues in past, but reinstalling the OS is a no-go because it has an administrator's copy [license-free] of AutoCad 2009. Though the copy of Win7 it has is real, every time on startup it throws a 'Windows may not be genuine' notification.
Can someone point my in the direction I need to start looking to fix this? I have access to someone with much more knowledge than I, but if I can do most of the legwork it would speed things along. This is the first time in years I've cared about a video game and really want to get back to it.
BTW, thank you for the advice, Kadushy, Pyre. :)

That error is related to direct x. Install it from here

OT as mentioned before, just get a new machine. Swapping out for "a better mobo" is unrealistic in practice.
