Does Peace Exist?

Does Peace Exist? Is it universally true? Does everyone knows what peace is?
My thoughts are, all people experience pain. Am I right? To even differentiate what pain is you need to know what pain is not. Is that right fellow Fakkus? So, fro y crude definition of peace is the absence of pain right? Therefore peace exists.
I want to know your Comments and Ideas.

Rather than the absence of pain I think peace is the absence of conflict. So if you truly want to know if peace exists you have to look at everything causing conflict: fear, greed, pain, envy,... . Can you imagine a world without those, well that is your peace.

[size=14]The concept of peace most definitely exists otherwise we wouldn't be talking about it, whether peace is achievable or not is the real question. Probably not unless we change the very nature of humanity, even if you look at tribes in places like papa new guinea and the Amazon where they are less developed than we are and do not possess conventional weapons, they are often fighting and this is down to mankind's inherent want to further oneself and maybe a few select others to be better than everyone else. Essentially, greed. [/h]

Does Peace Exist? As a state of indwelling - sure.

Is it universally true?Nah, the definition itself aims at human behavior specifically (it came from us after all).

It'd be more informative if you added some sort of a prehistory.

Peace does not exists. Humans have a history of violence,Hell I bet every known sentient being in existence short of the Divine or Supernatural will ever know of Peace will long lasting peace anyway. Funny this was gonna be a thread I was gonna create when I came back in September to officially make threads again on Fakku. Beat me to the punch lol.
Anyway I would like to leave this quote from the great series Star Wars made by the Sith which I believe holds much Truth.
''Peace is a lie, there is only passion.
Through passion, I gain strength.
Through strength, I gain power.
Through power, I gain victory.
Through victory, my chains are broken.
The Force shall free me.''
This is a far cry from the Jedai's message that would say that peace is possible which is Fool hardy in my opinion.
''There is no emotion, there is peace.
There is no ignorance, there is knowledge.
There is no passion, there is serenity.
(There is no chaos, there is harmony.)(*)
There is no death, there is the Force.''

No.True peace does not exist...it is a symbol, idea and a state of being that we try to achieve but generally fail to bring about, yet, it is a worthy idea to strive for since it teaches tolerance, compassion, mercy and many other traits of self-betterment...at least that's what i believe.

True world peace is impossible. For everyone in the entire world to have mutual understanding and tolerance of everything humans do is just absurd to even think.
However preventing major world conflicts from happening is still possible, and it's at least better to have fewer wars than what could possibly have happened. We should at least strive for temporary peace. It beats being constantly at war.

It makes you wonder why people continue to ask for world peace and shit when it can't happen. I mean sentience will undoubtedly cause conflict to arise with in what ever form it takes. I actually have to laugh at how miss universe contestants and other like minded people expose the need for peace when such a thing will never happen. Also makes you wonder what the fuck is the point of pacifism when it is in a sentient best interest to live, kill weather it be animal or plant and survive. The whole concept seems silly to me.

I honestly don't believe in world peace or anything because of two things
1. It is in human nature to create conflict (in my opinion)
2. The only way that there would world peace is through dictatorship, and how do dictators keep power? They fight!

2 is sort of incorrect. Even with a dictator there would still be no true peace unless humans were mind controlled perfectly and with out a shot at rebellion etc.

Absent of pain or conflict isn't peace but it's the next step where you feel comfortable with or accepted the circumstances around you but are able to move forward with that pain or that conflict.
Can everyone feel this? Of course but you must be able to face that pain or conflicts ahead of you to feel this feelings, and once they can overcome the pain and the conflicts, people will be able to change themselves, those around them, or maybe the entire world for the better.
Well people may not know my thoughts of peace but if few people allow this then it will spread like a virus and it will soon infect everyone.

Peace is whatever you make it. It's up to you if you have a life filled with peace or not, it's your decision to rid yourself of negative, and only think in positive, and when something happens that brings you down or tries to, just don't let it. I know it's easier said than done, but it's possible.

In my opinion, peace, like hunger, thirst or summer vacation, is one of those concepts that can't exist without it's negative counter part. I don't know why and I don't even know if I like the idea but I think that's how it goes. For instance, why is summer vacation, at least when you're in school, the greatest thing ever? It is because you have to go through nine months of school and enjoy it before the next nine months come and that's what makes it special. If it were always summer vacation for your entire life, what would be the point? Why would that be good?
To summarize, or even explain my point, I would say that peace does exist but not absolute or true peace. War is what makes peace special. Without one, the other seems to make things pointless. Either way, I'm not sure.
