Sam Raimi is back! The creator of Army of Darkness, who has until now been spending his time making spiderman movies, is finally back in his element. Drag Me To Hell looks to be alot of fun, and from the trailer one can tell that his style hasn't changed at all. Visit the site here. For those too lazy, here's the plot:
Christine Brown (Alison Lohman) is an ambitious L.A. loan officer with a charming boyfriend, professor Clay Dalton (Justin Long). Life is good until the mysterious Mrs. Ganush (Lorna Raver) arrives at the bank to beg for an extension on her home loan. Should Christine follow her instincts and give the old woman a break? Or should she deny the extension to impress her boss, Mr. Jacks (David Paymer), and get a leg-up on a promotion? Christine chooses the later, dispossessing Mrs. Ganush of her home.
In retaliation, the old woman places the curse of the Lamia upon Christine, transforming her life into a living nightmare. Haunted by an evil spirit and misunderstood by her skeptical boyfriend, she seeks the aid of seer Rham Jas (Dileep Rao) to save her soul from eternal damnation. To help the shattered Christine, the psychic sets her on a frantic course to reverse the spell. As evil forces close in, Christine must face the unthinkable: how far will she go to break free of the curse?

So if you were a fan of the Evil Dead trilogy, or simply love the horror, I suggest you visit the site and check out the trailer. Should be alot of fun.

I saw the trailer for this the other day, and it looks fucking awesome. Not some lame slasher and not some generic paranormal shit with a strong hero who must overcome the evil thing. People won't be dying every five minutes, all characters that exist solely to die. This is an actual movie that happens to be horror. You don't see that often enough.
I may actually go to the theater to see it, instead of waiting for it to come out on DVD or TV.

I just saw this! ^_^ Here's a review, no spoilers.
Rating: 9/10
You'd think after taking such a long break from horror, Sam Raimi would have forgotten how to do it. You, good sir, would be wrong. I already laid down the synopsis in the previous post, so I won't go into too much detail. Woman (Alison Lohman) works at a loan department and in order to impress her boss, she refuses to give a loan extension to a really creepy old gypsy. Apparently, that was a bad idea, as she decides to curse her horribly. So this is her trying to avoid being ...dragged to hell.
The story flows nicely, and you can tell right away that this is a movie you have to see at the theaters, since it relies on the incredible use of volume at times. ...Actually, I think the projectionist jacked up the sound a bit too high, but I think it added to the experience. There are some really good scares here and there, although the overall level of blood and gore is pretty low. Mostly, this relies on the intricacies of the story to give you the required chills.
Still, this is Sam Raimi, so there is a certain gross-out factor to consider. Alot of scenes are reminiscent of Evil Dead (especially Evil Dead 2), although the one thing to point out is the comedy. Any fan knows that Sam is a huge fan of the three stooges, and has a weakness for using elaborate slapstick routines in his movies. This one is definitely no exception, since there are several parts that are a brilliant combination of freaky/gross/hilarious.
The ending was a bit predictable if you paid attention, but that didn't ruin the experience. Despite the fact that Alison Lohman isn't that hot of a girl to watch (And Justin Long simply isn't that great of an actor, I guess being smarmy about Macintosh Computers doesn't really expand your range as much as you'd think), she does a decent job of it.
I had alot of fun, and this was exactly what I expected it to be. Great special effects, good story line, a few seconds of Ted Raimi, and laughs all around. Go watch it!
